1926 - 2017
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is deeply saddened by the death of beloved comedian, performer, humanitarian and former MDA telethon star and national chairman Jerry Lewis.

MDA would not be the organization it is today were it not for Jerry's enthusiasm and tireless efforts on behalf of "his kids." Jerry's efforts on the MDA telethon transformed the broadcast into an American tradition each Labor Day weekend for 45 years.

MDA and the families we serve will always be grateful for the thousands of hours Jerry dedicated through the telethon, which provided MDA with a platform to honor and acknowledge our longtime corporate partners and educate the American public who generously donated millions of dollars for unparalleled research and services.

Jerry's love, passion and brilliance are woven throughout this organization, which he helped build from the ground up.

In the last year, the MDA family has witnessed remarkable progress, with an unprecedented three new drugs approved for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy. This would not have been possible without Jerry's leadership and the indelible impact he had on neuromuscular disease research.

Thank you, Jerry. You are our hero.

God bless you.

We send our deepest condolences to the entire Lewis family.

With love and gratitude,
MDA Board of Directors and the entire MDA family.

Jerry Lewis is an amazing man. When I was a child his movies helped me through some very dark times. He inspired me to be my families comedian and sure could make them laugh even when they were sad. Thank you Jerry for helping me find the laughter. I still watch your movies. I dont have them all but I wish I did. Now its your time to rest but Im sure in Heaven you keep the angels laughing.

Hi Jerry
Today is Labor Day 2019 your favorite holiday.
It still seems so strange even after these several years
with no Telethon.
Here's my gift to you. And if i time it just right I'll have this done at 3pm
which was your sign off time each year.
Happy Labor Day to you Jerry

When you walk through a storm
Keep your chin up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
at the end of the storm is a golden sky and the
sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
walk on through the rain
tho your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, Walk on
with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
you'll never walk alone
Walk on, Walk on
with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
you'll never walk alone

"Goodnight -God Bless
Thank You So Much"
Miss You Jerry

I apologize for this very belated post which is very overdue

Jerry Lewis is my all time favorite Comedian, who was also Director and a very underrated Excellent Actor, often displaying serious dramatic performances in many of his Comedies. In King Of Comedy (Robert DeNiro was blown away by his performance, and it is impossible to not get choked up at the end of The Nutty Professor, when Buddy Love is on stage during his final transformation. That was just Great acting.

He was a big fan of Charlie Chaplin, who also was a big influence on his career, and he even adapted the song "Smile" as his Telethon Theme Song (which was written by Charlie Chaplin BTW). One of his prized possessions was an Original 35 mm print of Modern Times, which Charlie Chaplin personally gave to him as a gift.

As a Director and out of necessity, Mr. Lewis had mounted a video camera and film camera together in order to share the same camera shot. This enabled him to do instant playback the on video tape and he created what is known today as Video Assist, which allows the Director to view a video version of a take as soon as it was filmed.

I ALWAYS looked forward to the MDA Telethons as far back as I could remember, because Jerry Lewis could always make me laugh hard enough to cry and nearly stop breathing most every time. I waited eagerly and impatiently for his impromptu comedic moments and performances when you would least expected it, in between and sometimes during the entertainment segments and sponsor donations.

The Tributes have been and will continue to be justifiably overwhelming from everywhere throughout the Entertainment world, and will look to inspire Special Tributes during the Oscars, Emmy's and countless other entertainment venues.

He truly was an Entertainment Icon, who inspired countless Comedians, and I can literally go on and on and on about his Talent and what he meant to this world, and to me personally. I was fortunate to acquire a personally autographed copy of one of his books. I wish I had met him in person, but I think he would tell me that I would know him best by being his Fan, by watching and appreciating all the films and performances of his Lifetime of work, because he put all of himself in everything he did - including raising over $2.6 billion in research donations to fight Muscular Dystrophy and the MDA National Chairman.

When Jerry Lewis passed away, it was a very very sad day for me, his other many many Fans, and the Entertainment Industry. My sincere condolences to the Family, Friends and Fans of Jerry Lewis and may he Rest in Peace, Amein.

A new year, but the end of an Era.

JERRY LEWIS was the most talented entertainer ever to grace the earth. There will never be anyone who could fill his funny shoes, or no act to recreate the 'Magic in a bottle' chemistry that he and Dean had.

This brilliant, charismatic, courageous nut has gone on to be the biggest, brightest star in the sky.
Never to be forgotten.

With love to all of his family.

When Jerry Lewis died and I heard he was 91, I could not believe it. I became involved with Muscular in 1977. I was 26 years of age. I had Polio at age 2, but I could still walk with crutches. I had crutches and braces for a long time. I decided on the advice of a Therapist, to quit wearing the leg braces. I was living in Toronto. I moved to Wellington in 1984, and to Belleville in 1987. I had some jobs in Belleville. I went on Disability Pension in 1992. I started volunteering in 1993. I was at Belleville General Hospital for 20 years. I am now at Hastings Manor, and Volunteering. Mr. Jerry Lewis did an awful lot for Muscular Dystrophy for years. We will never forget him. God Bless You, Mr. Jerry Lewis.

To the family and friends of Mr. Jerry Lewis, may I say that the entire world has lost a dynamic entertainer. Jerry made people laugh, and cry at times, and even though he was acting for the audience, you could feel a sense of deep emotion he had for people and his profession. I met Mr. Lewis once in MA, and within seconds after giving out autographed photos, he drove off into the distance to get to his hotel. He drove the car, and I thought that was unusual, but as time went by, I'm sure he had plenty of drivers to take him anywhere. Jerry was a very talented man in front of the camera, as well as behind it, and he will always be in out hearts.

My Dear Mr. Lewis,
While as a child, I always appreciated your talent, it wasn't until I reached adulthood that I was able to fully appreciate the true scope of your genius. You were, in every sense of the word, and on many levels, a trailblazer. Your work helped me through some very dark times, and your philanthropy was an inspiration to all. The joy you've brought to myself and to millions over the years is incalculable.
You will forever hold a very special place in my heart my Dear Mr. Lewis. You will be profoundly missed, but never, ever forgotten.
