KENT IVEY

KENT IVEY Oct. 31, 1960-July 21, 2013 Kent L. Ivey, 52, a Henderson attoryney, passed away suddenly at home July 21, 2013. Kent was the youngest son of Marcum D. Ivey and Ann Ivey of Redlands, Calif.; and brother to Kevin Ivey of Los Angeles. Kent was born in San Bernardino, Calif. and grew up in Rialto, Calif. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1978, where he was the student body president as a senior. Kent graduated UCLA in 1982, where he was an Airborne Qualified Marine Option NROTC and a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Kent received his JD from Pepperdine Law School in 1985 and was admitted to the California bar in 1987. Kent began his law career in Century City, Calif., and later became a sole practitioner representing clients in debtor/creditor, bankruptcy and real estate issues. During college, Kent met Pamela Scurr of Orinda, Calif. They were married in 1984. Kent and Pam moved to Henderson, where Pam began her cardiology practice in 2000. Kent became a Nevada attorney in 2002 and began his practice in Henderson that year. Our dear Kent was a dedicated amateur athlete. He swam and competed regularly with the Las Vegas Masters swim club and the 2.4 mile leg of the Silver Man Triathlon several years in a row. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed Sunday morning bike rides with Pam and a group of friends. Kent campaigned for the Democratic nomination for the Nevada State Assembly District 20 in November 2012. It was one of his great joys to walk the district door-to-door meeting voters and we are confident that he would have run again. He was active in the Henderson Rotary club. Kent was a dedicated family man and the biggest fan of daughter, Brooke, a high school junior and competitive swimmer with Boulder City Henderson Swim Club and son, Kyle, who begins his training in musical theater at the University of Cincinnati this fall. Kent loved waterskiing at Lake Arrowhead, Calif., and he always enjoyed a spirited political debate around the dinner table at the family cabin. Our spouse, son, dad, brother and friend would leave us with this thought, "If by a 'liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a 'liberal,' then I'm proud to say I'm a liberal."-John F. Kennedy, Profiles in Courage. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, Henderson.
