Maurice Ewy Obituary

MAURICE EWY Maurice "Gene" Ewy, Feb. 21, 1927 July 17, 2014, of Henderson, passed away peacefully after valiantly battling a long illness. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Point Cruz as a machinist's mate. He continued in the field becoming vice president of Metro Machine and Engineering Corp. in Eden Prairie, Minn. If he wasn't fishing Big Sandy Lake or playing cards, he was traveling the world inventing special machines. He lived in Minnesota until retiring to Las Vegas. His loving wife, of 67 years, Ramona, was by his side. Aiding her in his care was his only daughter, Dawn and her husband, Dave. His stories and memories will be passed on by granddaughter, Terri and husband Kevin; granddaughter, Dina and husband, Stoane; grandson, Thomas and wife, Sahar; and his great-grandchildren, Nicole, Michael and TJ. As he joins family and friends in Heaven, he will leave many others around the country who will miss his smile and sense of humor. "Fair Winds and Following Seas, until we are together again." Services will be private.

Mona, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember the days when John would come home and work on his tractor with fury after talking with Gene. The excitement those two had over that tractor. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this time. I love you all.

I seem to put off things until tomorrow and now find that my tomorrows are gone. I thank God we're given a glimpse through the veil that separates us and I can thank Gene for being my brother and bringing so much joy and love to myself and my family.

Till we meet again.
Love your sister, Jane

My Grandpa was an awesome guy w a great sense of humor, and a great memory. I thought I would share a story, of course you may have heard his version already. It was back in 1996 and we were at the cabin in McGregor, playing 7 card stud, family friend Tom was dealing( of course) there were 11 people playing the last hand of the night which meant big money-$11. Four cards in grandpa thought he was going to lose so he said" I am done, I am going to bed". Turns out he would have won, but instead I did. In the morning Susan couldn't wait to tell him. Of course we all laughed, especially friend Lucille. He never forgot this and would tell anyone who would listen to watch out if I was playing cards w them. A few days before he passed away I was sitting w him and helping him w anything I could and he said "Terri,I need something". Of course I said "Ok grandpa what do you need?" His answer, "17 dollars!" I said " it was 11". His response"I have been charging interest". And then he smiled, knowing he wasn't getting a dime. I am sure Tom, Lu, and Susan have already dealt him in on a new game and I am sure they are happy I never gave him the $11. He will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the entire Ewy family. Having just met Mr. Ewy last October, it was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to meet him. We spoke of a couple common bonds, the U.S. Navy, and our love of the two wonderful people we were celebrating with on that occasion. May you all find solace in the realization that he is no longer suffering, and keep all the wonderful memories so near and dear to your heart to ease your pain.
My love and prayers to you all.

Wayne
