MONA VANDEVER Obituary

MONA VANDEVER Mona Loy Vandever, 86, peacefully passed April 16, 2021, in Las Vegas, NV. She departed her life the way she lived: Gracefully. Mona was born May 24, 1934 in Blackfoot, Idaho. The daughter of a rancher, Mona grew up with her siblings on sheep ranches in Idaho and Montana. She graduated in 1952 from Butte High School in Montana. After high school, Mona moved to Las Vegas, where she worked at Binion's Horseshoe. At Binion's, she met the love of her life, George Vandever. Mona and George married September 18, 1960. For 49 years they lived an amazing loving life together, raising their two beautiful children. Mona took classes at Clark County Community College and worked as a Public School Administrative Assistant at Vo Tech and Rancho High school in Las Vegas for 31 years. She was a proud member of the Supreme Emblem Club of the United States of America for 54 years, from 1967 until her passing. She was a charter member of the North Las Vegas Emblem Club, where she served as the 4th president in 1970. She went on to become State President from 1987-1988 and, later, Supreme President from 2001-2002. Mona began her journey across the U.S as Supreme President on September 11, 2001. In a time of tragedy, Mona witnessed the most beautiful display of patriotism throughout our great country. Mona will be forever remembered for spreading the "Magic" in the helping hands of Emblem. Mona was a collector of many things. She loved crystal dishes, Snowbabies, sailing ships, seashells, and antique items she displayed at her cabin in Utah. She loved spending time with her family, shopping, watching the Hallmark channel and traveling. "Nana" loved baking and made the most delicious chocolate fudge frosted cake. She was selfless, kind, generous, classy, courageous, and honest. Above all, Mona loved unconditionally. She touched the lives of anyone lucky enough to have known her, and she will be deeply missed. Previously departed loved ones include her beloved husband, George Vandever; parents, Ross Pope and Thelma Meeks Sorenson; daughter-in-law, Carole "Cece" Vandever; stepson, Richard Vandever; niece, Kim LeCoure; and nephews, Kenneth LeCoure and Brigham Priestley. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Sanders (Brent); her son, Curtis Vandever (Jody); stepsons, Barry and Bill Vandever (Carla); her grandchildren, Justin Vandever, and Ashlie Dionisio (Jeff); Trent and Tristin Sanders; sister, Beverly Johnson; brothers, James Pope (Stephanie), Danny Pope; niece, Tammy North (Roland), nephew, Tim Priestley. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or The Supreme Emblem Club Scholarship Fund in Memory of Mona Vandever. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Bunkers Eden Vale Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas, NV 89101. Due to covid, attendance for the service is limited, with virtual streaming also available. If you are interested in attending or streaming. email: [email protected]

Mona Vandever, was a most gracious person...never seeking applause for her accomplishments
one being her knowledge of parliamentary procedures and a certified parliamentarian. Her written obituary is a tribute to her lifetime accomplishments! She will be missed as a highly respected member of the Supreme Emblem Club of the
United States of America Board of Directors. She will be missed.
Deepest sympathy to her family. She was a most grand lady.
