PETER KARNOSKI Peter John Karnoski passed away peacefully Jan. 8, 2016, at the age of 86. He was a 28-year resident of Las Vegas. Born in Ambridge, Pa., he graduated as valedictorian and president of the senior class from St. Veronica High School. He received his mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and was a retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Helen. They were married at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, while he was on active duty. Most of his active duty years in the Air Force were spent in the Strategic Air Command. His professional engineering career was spent in the design and construction of nuclear power plants. This necessitated some moves and the family resided in Indiana, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, and lastly Nevada, where he worked on the Nuclear Repository for Science Applications International Corp. He was a member of Guardian Angel Cathedral Catholic Church, past president of the Reserve Officers' Assoc. for the state of Nevada, past president of the Air Force Navigators Observers Assoc., member of Military Officers Assoc. of America, an active member of the Master Gardeners of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his three sons, Thomas (Claudia), Stephen and Keith (Tammy); six grandchildren, Shannon (Corey) Woods, Travis Karnoski, Drew Karnoski, Noel Peressini (Jason) Ashley and Brandon Karnoski; two great-grandchildren, Andon and Leah Woods; sister, Elizabeth Cecil; and brother, Francis. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. Donations may be made to your favorite charity.
