I have fond memories of Voss,as he was my boss and the manager of my group, The Lady Birds. I'll never forget Voss, Evonne, Chris, Sissy, Eddie Belasco, and Pee Wee from Tipseys. Sorry I just learned of his passing.

I just now learned of the passing of Voss and want to extend my deepest sympathies for the loss of a remarkable and wonderful man. I knew Voss many years ago in San Francisco and want to share a story with you about him. He owned the Off Broadway at the time and I asked for a job. Voss sat down with me and in a very short period of time he realized that I was not going to make it in that business and encouraged me to go back to school and get an office job when I finished my studies. I did go to school, finished and had a very successful business career thanks to Voss' sage advice. I ran into him many times over the years and each time felt gratitude for a man who stopped me from making a choice that would have affected the rest of my life. My prayers are with you and yours always.

I just saw this while researching for my book about dancing in North Beach. I worked at the Off Broadway in 1972 - 73 dancing in the show behind Carol Doda. Eddie Belasco was our choreographer. I clearly remember how handsome, kind, generous, and protective Voss was toward his "girls". If George De Martini (bartender when I worked there) or Dick Boyd sees this, please contact me at [email protected]. Rest in peace, Voss.

I worked for Voss a lot over the years at the Off Broadway and what a great man to work for. If you liked fair he was the best. He gave a lot and expected a lot. He helped me start my musical career which spanned twenty plus years. Thank you my friend and we,ll see you again. Gary

I worked for Voss out at the Say When Club in the outer Mission. I was going to college and the job really helped. Later I got a place on Broadway ST in North Beach and Voss worked for me for a few nights not sure of what celebration was going on. Not long after that he opened the Off Broadway.
Both our Clubs offered entertainment. His brother Chris told me the following funny story.
I'm not sure who was playing at the time but George Shearing came in. Naturally they wanted to give him a choice seat but all were taken. There was a seat up close but it was behind a post. Chris put him there and when Voss asked why, Chris said, "hey he's blind he doesn't care."
I'll always remember the wonderful picnics (in Marin) that Voss sponsored for former North Beach Club owners and employees. Great food and booze all courtesy of Voss.
I had connections with his brother Dushene (sp?) too as we went to Aptos Jr Hi together.
There was a family of owners and bartenders down on Broadway and it was great see them all at Voss's picnics.
We are all beginning to bite the dust as I lost my old partner Maurice Bessiere the same week that Voss passed away.

Craig, Johnny and Ronny,
Not sure you will remember me, but your dad was like a second father to me and my sister, Renee. He was a best friend to my mother, Rosemary Apostoli. I feel blessed to have known him.
