Yvonna Ross Obituary

YVONNA ROSS Yvonna Rae Ross passed away Oct. 5, 2010. She was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Levelland, Texas, and was raised in Wellington, Kan., by her parents, Roy and Oma Higginbotham. After graduating high school in Wellington, and attending Kansas State University, Yvonna married Thomas Clark Ross. As the wife of a newly minted second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, she started her world travels, where she met and kept lifelong friends from all over the world. They love her to this day and will miss her forever. While traveling the world, Yvonna had and raised four loving sons. After 25 years of military life, she landed in Las Vegas with her husband, Lt. Col. Thomas Clark Ross (Ret.). Yvonna soon went to work for UNLV's Continuing Education Department and then for the Nevada State Department of Education in the Transportation Department. After finally retiring for good, she became active in the senior tap dance group, "The Happy Hoofers," where she danced until the curtain finally came down. Yvonna was also very active in several ladies golf groups, where she scored her lone hole-in-one at the North Las Vegas Par 3 Golf Course. When she wasn't dancing or golfing, she was growing beautiful roses and growing and canning home-grown fruit from her backyard. She was also busy being "mom" to a family of desert tortoises. Yvonna was preceded in death by her first son, Thomas David Ross; dad, Roy Higginbotham; second son, Thomas Clark Ross; and mother, Oma Higginbotham. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons, Donald Mark Ross and Kevin Wayne Ross; three grandchildren, U.S. Marine Corps SSgt. Jonathan Thomas Ross, Raquel Markie Ross and Kelsi Nikkole Gossett-Ross; and one great-grandchild, Cameron Joseph Thomas Ross. Viewing will be from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 9, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. A gathering will follow at her home. She will be laid to rest in Wellington, Kan. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Nathan Adelson Hospice in Yvonna's name.

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

your youngest son

Dear mom, 50 years ago today-can you believe it 50 years ago!, I was brought in to the world by the best mom ever known. To say the wind is out of my sails would be true. I can't call and tell you what kind of cool, fun, interesting or sometimes a little dangerous job I am on but I sure think about it. I am sorry, but my job has become a little less interesting. I know you don't like that. I wish I could tell you about kelsi's first trip to disneyland and sea world and the beach. She had a really good time. Not as much fun as I had watching her but a good time. I hope you and sugar got the ballon and picture we sent. When we let it go the wind took it high and far. I know you and great grandma suggs where watching because there were a lot of big fluffy clouds up in the sky that day. If you were here you know I would be spending the big 50 in your beautiful back yard swimming and just hanging and relaxing . I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss you and love you. I truly believe you were and still are the best thing in my life. Give sugar, daddy roy, david, tommy, aunt zelma, grand dad and grand mother ross a big hug and kiss from me and Kelsi. P.S. me and mark are doing the best we can with dad.

Mom, there are not enough ways or words to say how much I love you. You did more in your 77 years than most people do in 100 life times. Your grand daughter Kelsi loved you so much I can't even describe it. Look for some baloons heading your way real soon.

Our profound sympathies go to Tom and the "kids". Without her exuberant energy it will be as though someone has sucked the air out of the room. God bless you Yvonna. I have no doubt that she is already lining up the angels and teaching them all new dance steps. We will miss her.

Yvonna's determination, willpower, courage and love for life will forever be her legacy left for her family and friends. We are keeping everyone in our thoughts and prayers. The Pinto family, Plano, Texas

The Costenbader Family sends our deepest sympathy to the Ross family. Yvonna was a dear friend and co-worker to our father, Carl. She was the glue that held Carl, Pete and Betty together as they spent many years counseling middle school students in Accokeek Maryland. Many young lives were transformed because of their efforts. Over the years, the members of this office always shared a special bond. Friends forever!

Yvonna: I can't believe that I am writing this as your memorial message. It seemed like only a few weeks ago, we were chatting and having tea. There are no words to express the total loss that my family and I feel right now. You have been a big part of our lives for twelve years and took me in when I just moved here. You made a difference in my live and, I will never forget you and your big smile. I know you will always shine down on us forever.
