Denis was a wonderful Uncle to us, always supportive and encouraging. When we were faced with the prospect of moving from home to South Carolina nine years ago, he gave us just the pep talk that we needed. Over the years, with every chance we'd had to visit home, Uncle Denis was always one of the first people we wanted to see and he was always there for us. He'll be missed and not forgotten.

I and my wife Nancy are sorry to hear of the passing of Denis. We just saw him at the Aspen on Friday September 1, 2017. We had numerous conversations over the years, as I served with him in the 70th Division. We would like to pass our condolences to the family. Denis will be missed. Rest in peace Colonel, you have been called to a higher order to provide your leadership and humor.

I'm going to miss him so much. I first met COL Swenie (then Major) when I became the Unit Administrator for Log Group in 1987. I've heard many words of wisdom, or Swenieisms as I call them, from him since then. Our get-togethers and First Friday dinners will be missing a good person. RIP Sir.

So sad to hear of COL Denis Swenie's passing. He was my first commander as an officer and was my mentor and friend. He will be missed by many who have been touched by his presence and often subtle sense of humor. Take care sir, you left us far too soon.
