Cecilia, we met only once, so you may not remember me. I hope what I have to share makes you smile.
Jeff Becker could have done anything.
Truly One of the hardest working people in the Biz. Great work ethic. I have a lot of great memories and much respect for Jeff.
So many stories ... many about food ... the guy is/was a machine (and a machine needs fuel and fluids).
On one job, a night shoot, the scene required a big pre-rig. As we walked the cable runs, Jeff would reach under a wheel hub, behind a set piece or some other odd place where he had stashed a sandwich or some other item from crafty. Hands dirty, enviorment dusty, hotter than any GA summer I recall, sweat pouring off all the crew. Jeff was in the Zone.
The only time I ever saw Jeff have a bad day was on a shoot for the Ripley's pilot. He had bought a ton of White Castle burgers and when the bulk went uneaten he (never one to let food go to waste) finished off perhaps two dozen (but I'll go with a "Becker's Gross" if it'll add to his Legend and coin a phrase). Anyway .... later that day .... as he heads home .... his body begins to wretch. He knows what is coming Up next, rolls down the window on his PU and ... Game On. Cars behind are getting either a full hit or mist, so as he pulls along the side of the interstate to hurl, Jeff's huge frame opens the door for more projectile.
When he told me/us the story it was hilarious. Apparently the expressions on ppl's faces as they drove by... "the horror" was PRICELESS.
I learned a lot from Jeff.
A Big Man. A Huge Heart. A Tremendous Appetite. And the only guy I knew that still had (in the mid to late 90's) an 8 track tape collection and player. He also had a great vinyl library.
Miss(ed) you bro.
