Macon, GA- Services for Annie Laura Horton Battle are 11:00 AM Monday, February 19, 2018 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Rev. Michael G. Ephraim will officiate.
Mrs. Battle was born in Macon to the parentage of the late Eddie P. and Mary Middlebrooks Horton. She graduated from Ballard Hudson High School and received her Bachelor's Degree from Fort Valley State University. She was married to the late Johnnie Battle and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Mrs. Battle was employed by the Bibb County Board of Education and taught at Central High School before she retired.
Survivors include: brother, Willie (Alma) Horton, Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.

An amazing English Teacher will be truly missed by all the students she taught at Central High School. Ms. Battle was one of the greatest teacher, who was dedicated to her students and she loved them as if they were her own children. In every memory I have of Aunt Annie Laura, she was always, Always laughing! I thought she was so prim and sweet, carrying herself w/such grace & dignity!
To the Battle & Horton Families, death comes so suddenly, leaving so many of us unprepared! It hurts! Our comfort lies in the Peaceful Garden, where we know Annie Laura has journeyed. No longer Earthly, she's Heavenbound! No longer in transition, as are we, but now a Beautiful Butterfly! On Her Wings, shall she soar!

My students were assigned a black history project and I was telling them about Mrs. Battle. You didnt bring "crap" to her class. I told them, " you know if you are bringing me crap or your best". As they walked in my room on Friday, I saw AWESOME projects. A few students said, "Ms Smith, I didnt bring you crap." I remembered what you said about Ms. Battle.
Thank you Ms. Battle! You are still teaching the next generation..

Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal. Mrs. Battle was a true jewel, confident and an inspiration to me. She was my 9th grade English/Literature teacher who knew her children and pushed them to their max. May the lord continue to comfort the family as their love one watches over them in heaven.
