Berry Moore Obituary

Dr. Berry Whitworth Moore
January 2, 1936 - May 30, 2022
Gray, Georgia - Dr. Berry Whitworth Moore, 86, of Gray, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022. The family will greet friends Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Gray United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Highview Cemetery, Gray, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gray United Methodist Church Building Fund, 117 South Jefferson St., Gray, GA 31032.
Dr. Moore was born on January 2, 1936, and lived most of his life in Jones County. He graduated from Jones County High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and met his wife. He served in the Army as the Station Veterinarian for the Pentagon, stationed at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia. Among his duties were taking care of the caisson horses used in the Arlington National Cemetery and guard dogs assigned to the missile sites around Washington D.C. He was married in Bethesda, Maryland in 1961 and soon returned to Jones County to start a veterinary practice with his wife. From 1963 until retiring in 2000 he served the county treating large and small animals. He was also involved in the community through the Georgia Cattlemen's association, the Lions Club and 20 years of dedication to the Jones County Animal Service.
And …. then there are the Georgia Bulldogs. He had season tickets since 1966 until the 2020 season, when he physically could not walk to the stadium and joked many times that if there was ever a year to give up your season tickets, 2020 was it.
He was a man of few words and Sara Jane lead most of the conversations at home. The blessing that came from his wife's sudden death in 2015, was that he transitioned from listening to chatting and for seven years enriched his special relationship with his daughters.
Son of the late Juhan Jasper and Ossie Mae Whitworth Moore, Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Sara Jane Uhrich Moore, brother, William "Billy" Juhan Moore, and sister-in-law, Lyndoll Ulm Moore.
Dr. Moore is survived by his daughters, Berri Clair (Jeff) Dorsey of Suffolk, Virginia and Kristi Mae Moore of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, Moira Jane Dorsey, Bryson Thomas Dorsey, and Alexander James Dorsey; sister-in-law, Dolores Uhrich Miller of Oak Park, IL; nieces and nephews, Ruth Moore Kramer (Joe) of Roswell, GA, David Juhan Moore (Judy) of Gray and Clyde Adams of Brooklyn, NY, Joan Adams of Brooklyn, NY, Bruce (Jean) Adams of Pittsburgh, PA, Jill (John) Adams Chaplin of Delmar, NY, Jean (John) Adams Heinrich of Antigo, WI, Kevin Miller of Chicago, IL and Carl (Tracy) Miller of San Ramon, CA. Dr. Moore was blessed with special friends, James "Jimmy" C. and Frances Roberts as well as caregiving angels including; Mary Greene, Shirley King, Joni Smith, Tammy Stephens, Tomekia Briscoe, Doris Irvin, Maryanne Axom and Peria Walker.
