David Hamilton Daniel, age 90, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on December 20, 2025.
Born in Eastman, Georgia on November 30, 1935 and raised in Cochran, Georgia, Mr. Daniel was the son of Harry LeRoy Daniel and Florence Elizabeth Crum Daniel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers and their wives-Harry Leroy Daniel (Marion Dykes) of Cartersville, Georgia, and Remer Crum Daniel (Pamela Miller) of Macon, Georgia; and David Scott Davis of Macon, Georgia, his longtime caretaker and the husband of his niece.
Mr. Daniel is survived by his devoted niece and caretaker, Catherine Daniel Davis of Macon, along with her three children: Ryan Matthew Glisson (Jennifer Odom), Miller Ann Davis, and Layne Elizabeth Davis. He is also survived by four nephews and their families: Remer Craig Daniel (Tracy) of Houston, Texas; Christopher Keith Daniel (Genevieve) of Richmond, Virginia; Lee Daniel (Michelle) of Cartersville, Georgia; and Richard Daniel (Wynell) of Cartersville, Georgia. His extended family includes cousins Suzanne Harper (Ralph) of Albany, Georgia; Norma Chastain of Rochelle, Georgia; and Letsa Marrietta of Atlanta, Georgia. He also considered Scott Davis' family his own, his "North Carolina Davis family".
In addition to his family ties, Mr. Daniel maintained many close friendships in Milledgeville, Georgia-friends and neighbors he considered family.
Mr. Daniel graduated from Cochran High School where he played football and trombone in the band. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and later serving as a Scout Master. He was recognized by his classmates as "most polite" in his senior year.
He became a member of the United Methodist Church in Cochran in 1956. Over time, he served as church treasurer and taught Sunday School for the college class. After relocating to Milledgeville in 1974, he became a dedicated member of Milledgeville First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Daniel earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University in 1971 and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He later received an MBA from Georgia College in 1976. His commitment to education continued with studies in Educational Leadership at the University of Georgia and culminated with a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Georgia College and State University in 2005 and a Master of Accounting from the same institution in 2018.
During this time, he served eight years with the Air National Guard.
Professionally, Mr. Daniel owned and operated David H. Daniel CPA firm in Milledgeville from 1974 until 2020. He also served as an Assistant Professor at Georgia Military College and as an Adjunct Accounting Instructor at Georgia College. Additionally, he worked as an internal auditor for the Macon Housing Authority.
His civic involvement was extensive. He served as President of the Cochran Men's Club and Treasurer of the Milledgeville Men's Club.
He held membership in The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for over 25 years and also held the prestigious honor of Master of the Royal Secret of the 32 Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
Within Rotary Club circles, Mr. Daniel held numerous leadership roles over three decades-including secretary, treasurer, and president. He also served as treasurer for
American Red Cross for several years while acting as director for four years. His contributions to healthcare philanthropy included serving as treasurer and board member for the Central State Hospital Foundation. He established the Middle Georgia College Classes of '55, '56 & '57 Endowed Scholarship to support future students.
Mr. Daniel's hobbies reflected his deep commitment to service: participating in civic work and charitable missions with Methodist youth organizations; transporting friends and neighbors to church events; preparing smoked meats during holidays for others; and crafting homemade wine.
In 2021, Mr. Daniel moved to Magnolia Manor in Macon before transitioning to Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation Center where he became affectionately known as "Mr. President" due to his signature attire-always dressed professionally in white starched shirts.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation Center and to Affinis Hospice caregivers and volunteers for their compassionate care during his final days.
Mr. Daniel lived a life marked by dedication to community service, education, faith, and generosity.
His last and final gift was of his body for medical research to Emory University School of Medicine Body Donation Program. A memorial service will be held at Emory University at a later date.
