Elizabeth Morton Obituary

Elizabeth Avery Morton -BIG POOL, MD - Elizabeth Avery Morton, 74, died at home, Sunday, June 28, 2009. Services will be held at 10:30A.M. Thursday, July 2, 2009 in the Fellowship Hall of Fort Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. James Hamlin officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:30P.M. in West Point City Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley. -Born August 14, 1934, in Five Points, AL, to the late Elgin and Mayme Avery, Mrs. Morton was the Valedictorian of the 1952 graduating class in Five Points, AL, attended Auburn University, and was the past president of the Chattachoochee Valley Association for Mentally Retarded People. A longtime resident of Fort Valley, she was a homemaker, income tax preparer, 1968 Top Woman Shooter in Georgia, past president of Cool Springs Gun Club and former member of Fort Valley United Methodist Church. She moved to Big Pool, MD, to be cared for by her family and became a member of Seven Candles Congregation. -Survivors include her children, Avery G. Morton of Big Pool, MD, Susan Elizabeth Morton Bright (Jimmy) of Big Pool, MD, and Lt. Col. Charles E. Morton (Debbie) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Stephen Chadd Morton of Fort Valley, Adam Morton Bright, Joy Elizabeth Bright, David George Bright, and Sarah Megan Bright, all of Big Pool, MD, and Christina Elizabeth Morton, Kimberlee A. Breeden (Jeremy) and Alyssa K. Morton, all of Huntsville, AL; a sister, Margie Avery of Roanoke, AL; and 48 nieces and nephews who all dearly loved their "Aunt Beth". She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lt. Col. George W. Morton, and a brother, Lt. Col. Charles E. Avery Jr. -Donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 22035, St. Petersburg, FL 33742, or to the charity of donor's choice. -Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.

"Miss" Beth will be missed by so many folks, the lives she has touched in so many different ways. She and Mr. George were such wonderful people. We always enjoyed visiting with them. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with you, the family. My heart felt
