George Knight Obituary

George Knight, Sr. -LAURENS COUNTY - Mr. George Knight, Sr., beloved native of Laurens County, Georgia, passed on September 1, 2007 at his residence. He was born May 22, 1915, the only child of the late Morris and Ada Brown Knight. He was educated in Laurens County Schools. At an early age, he joined New Bethel A.M.E. Church where he later became an adult class Sunday School teacher and class leader. He was also appointed a member of the steward and trustee boards. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Mae Roberson Knight to whom he was a very devoted husband. He was affectionately called "Pa Pa" by his grandchildren. -Mr. Knight was a school bus drive for 19 years for the Laurens County Board of Education. He was a bonded carpenter and worked for more than 40 years as a laborer and foreman of a construction crew with Curry Realtors. Mr. Knight also maintained a farm in the Buckeye Community. --Mr. Knight was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed reading, socializing with family and friends, recounting family history, fishing, hunting, building and above all, being attentive to his children and grandchildren. -To remember and love him, remain six daughters and three sons, Ruby Nell Knight of Dublin, Dr. Ada Pearl Knight of Nashville, Tenn., George Knight, Jr. (Blanchie) of Dublin, Dr. Channie (Willie) Scott of Irwinton, Morris (Charlene) Knight of Dublin, Barbara (Robert) Willis of Dublin, Zimmie (Harry) Baiden of Queens, NY, Gwendolyn (Darryl) Simmons of Folkston and Tony (Zandra) Knight of Snellville; four sisters-in-law, Verlena Sylvester, Lottis Denson, Elizabeth Smith and Willie Bell Wallace, all of New Jersey; one devoted brother-in-law, Joe Lewis Roberson of Dublin. He also leaves memories with 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends, including devoted cousins, Homer, Emma and Mamie Knight; two devoted neighbors, Mary and Thomas Graham. -Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11A.M. at New Bethel AME Church. Burial will be at he new Bethel AME Church Cemetery. He will be placed in the church one hour before service. -Visitation: 1226 Hwy 199 South at the home of his son, George (Blanchie) Knight, Jr. -Dudley Funeral Home, Dublin.

Mr. Knight & family, We were away but later found out about your dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the loss of your dad.
