George Stovall Obituary

George W. Stovall -MACON - George Woodliff Stovall, age 90, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. -A resident of Douglas, Georgia for many years, he moved to Macon in 1999 and was a resident of the Villas at College Hill. Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia on April 14, 1916, to Mary Alice Woodliff and Walter Louis Stovall, he moved to Douglas at a young age and attended elementary school there and graduated from Douglas High School. He attended the University of Georgia and Mercer University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He served in the Army Air Corps in England and Germany during World War II. He was a former Mayor Pro Tem of Douglas and served as the Chairman of the Slash Pine Area Planning Commission. He was a former member of the Douglas Rotary Club and the Douglas Kiwanis Club and was a lifelong Democrat. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Douglas, where he had served as Chairman of the Board of Stewards. He worked for many years in the wholesale grocery business and retired from International Paper. His wife of 60 years, Martha McKay Stovall, his parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. -His daughter, Lynn Cass, and her husband Michael of Macon; his son Walter Stovall and his wife Sue of New York City; his grandchildren Michael and Heather Cass of Nashville, TN; Robert Cass of Chicago, IL; Suesan Stovall of Los Angeles, CA; Natasha Stovall of New York City; and two great grandchildren survive him. -Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 2P.M. in the Douglas City Cemetery. -In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Douglas. -Hart's Mortuary and Sims Funeral Home have charge of arrangements.

To the Stovall family,I've known Mr.George for a little over a year. In that time I found him to be a kind and gentle man that I had the privilege to know. May God be with all of you in your time of greif. I will miss him dearly. Ellen Sexton (Odis Nelson's daughter)
