Though it has taken an incredibly long time for me to write here, I hope my doing so now offers a worthy remembrance of my friend, Gian-Carlo Munna. I know he was a great, beloved friend to others. I would like to convey to them my sympathies. I am sure we all still grieve his loss. I send my deepest sympathies to his family. I wish his parents and his brother well. I hope they have found ways to carry on and enjoy life as he would have wanted. I believe his brilliant soul was clear to all who knew him. He was the most good-natured and easy-going person I have ever known. He was sincere, honest, kind, patient, and fueled by a limitless well of good intentions. He was incredibly talented, and incredibly good at nurturing and fulfilling his talent. He excelled at taking care of himself, at keeping himself whole. In all these ways, his was a standard that I still aspire toward. I always will. His whole brilliant soul was expressed to anyone lucky enough to hear him play the drums. He taught me many things and introduced me to so much music from all over the world. I think of him in a flood of fond memories anytime I hear any of that music, or really any percussion at all. He taught me about polyrhythm, that two rhythms could be played at the same time. He demonstrated it to me. He was always excited to share with me what he had discovered through the drums. He was always expanding his knowledge and abilities. He was always very patient in his explanations, a natural teacher. I believe that he kept his brilliant soul whole in spite of the mental challenges he had to wrestle with in his later years. I believe he achieved that through a kind of polyrhythm. I will always remember him as a beaming drummer of intense, unbreakable, optimistic beats which could light up anybody's mind and help them find their groove.

Dr. John Munna, I read of your son's death yesterday and was greatly saddened for you. Please accept my deepest sympathy in the passing of Gian. Don't know if you remember but years ago at Metro we used to talk of our boys along with their joys and trials. My older son also attended Ben Franklin. Please know you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Susan Zdencaovic

I only knew John for a short time, but I feel that he has truly touched me. He was struggling very hard and valiantly against a number of afflictions; I am devastated by the news of his death, but at the same time take comfort in knowing that he doesn't have to fight anymore. May you find serenity at last, John. Love, Amy.

My sincere condolences to the entire Munna family and all of the friends who have enjoyed knowing John through the years. I have and will always remember him as truly one-of-a-kind. Though I regret having lost contact with him some time ago, I have always counted him as one of my first, true "best" friends. He will be missed. Godspeed, Gian-Carlo.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Rana, Chris, and John and the rest of the Munna family. The loss of John is a deep personal loss for me. He was one of my first freinds and certainly one of my best. I regret that I lost contact with him in the last few years. I will remember John as a shining artististic light, a bright smile, and the solid center of my freindships in those years.

It's been many years since I talked to John, but I am greatly saddened to hear of his passing. He was one of the first people to teach me that there are many different ways to look at the same thing - a lesson which I have thought of many times.
My deepest sympathies to his family,
Scott
