James Howard Brantley

Wrightsville, GA- Funeral services for Mr. James Howard Brantley, age 88, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery. Rev. Robert Rathburn and Rev. Sammy Hall will officiate.
Mr. Brantley was born October 30, 1924 in Johnson County, Georgia. He was the son of the late, William Thomas Brantley and Clara Dickens Cox Brantley. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Pacific Ocean Theater of World War II aboard a Landing Craft Infantry. His work career began as a shipbuilder at the Savannah Ports and he retired after 44 years of service from the J.P. Stevens Company/Forstmann. He was also a self-employed farmer, gardener and livestock manager. He was a member of Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent, song leader and as a trustee for more than 50 years. Mr. Brantley passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Fairview Park Hospital.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a loving family which includes his wife of 65 years, Virginia Carroll Brantley of Wrightsville; daughters, Betty Jo Brantley Ashcraft of Wrightsville and Jean Brantley (Billy) Boone of Milledgeville; three grandchildren, Joel "Joey" Howard (Lynn) Ashcraft of Dublin, Ashley Boone (Chris) Snider of Pooler and Brent Sherod (Ophelia) Boone of Milledgeville; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan Elizabeth Ashcraft of Dublin, Payton Gibbs Ashcraft of Dublin, and Josephine Isabel Boone of Milledgeville; and a special niece, Willie Mae Webb of Wrightsville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, July 26, 2013 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Rachels, Jerry Foskey, Louis Fortner, Charles McCoy, Joe McCoy and Brian McCoy.
Honorary escorts will include Ronnie Smith, Andy Brantley, Stan Garnto, Chris Carter, Barry Wilds, Harry Winfrey, Willard Blizzard, Cecil Copeland, Larry Pope, Hilrey Ivey, Mike Ivey, Buford Pollett, Sr., Buford Pollett, Jr., Wayne Brantley and Stokes Jackson.
Contributions, in memory of Mr. Brantley, may be made to the Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Mary Elizabeth Pollett, 1330 Power Line Road, Wrightsville, Georgia 31096 or to Hospice of Laurens County, 205 North Franklin Street, Dublin, Georgia 31021.
