James McKay Obituary

James William McKay, Jr. -MACON - James William McKay, Jr., 86, of 225 Tulokee Court, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004. Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 1P.M. in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary with Dr. Bill Hurdle, the Reverends Jimmy Towson and John Irwin and Bishop C. W. Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. -Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Hart's Mortuary. -In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Wesley Glen Ministries, 4580 North Mumford Road, Macon, GA 31210 or to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 149, Macon, GA 31202. -Mr. McKay was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. For 40 years, he operated the Macon Toy and Hobby Shop. Mr. McKay was a U. S. Army Captain, Retired, serving in the 2nd Infantry Division during World War II. He was one of the first five Macon men drafted in January 1941, some 11 months before the war started. He was captured on June 12, 1944 and was held prisoner for more than seven months. He and other POWs had walked 573 miles in 74 days before they were trapped in the U. S. bombing raid at Nuremberg, Germany, on April 5, 1945. -Survivors include wife, Virginia McKay of Macon; son, James W. McKay III of Macon; cousin, Paul and Christine Cook of Macon. -Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

My deepest sympathies on your loss. One of the fondest memories of my childhood was going to Mr. McKay's Hobby shop on Saturday mornings with my father.
