John Girmsey Obituary

John W. "Jack" Girmsey, Sr. -WARNER ROBINS - John W. "Jack" Girmsey, Sr., 84, died Thursday, November 3, 2005. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1P.M. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Father Adam Szufel and Dr. Jimmy R. Asbell Jr. will officiate. -Mr. Girmsey, a native of Syracuse, NY, was the son of the late John and Ruth McGraw Girmsey. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Robins AFB where he was instrumental in implementing the program for hiring the handicapped at Robins. He was the first male to receive the "Friend of Women" award which recognized his push for equal advancement opportunities for women in the workplace as well as numerous other Air Force awards. He also coached baseball, basketball, football, and girl's track at the recreation department. He attended Northwestern University. -Survivors include his wife Marjorie R. Girmsey of Warner Robins; children, Dianne Riggs (Tom) Taffs of Alpharetta, Kathy Canady, Mary (David) Davidson, both of Bonaire and John W. (Debi) Girmsey Jr. of Hawaii; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. -The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. -Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallace Methodist Church, c/o Doug Brown, 501 Vz County Road, #2507, Canton, TX 75103. -Heritage Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Jan & I are deeply sadden to learn of Jack's death. He was a great contributor to the success of WR-ALC over many years and he will be greatly missed, I very much enjoyed having lunch at the O Club with him and learning from him. Our heartfelt sympathies to his family.

I was saddened to hear the news of Mr. Girmsey's passing. He was a wonderful man and one of a kind friend to myself and my family. I will always remember seeing him on Sundays when I worked at the garden shop in Kamrt in high school. My prayers are with the entire Girmsey family.
