Johnson City, Tennessee - Jonathan Kim Wooten, 55, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Kim was a native of Macon, GA, and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1987. He was a son of James Harrison "Buster" Wooten, Macon, and the late Laurene Johnson Wooten.

Kim was a 1986 graduate of First Presbyterian Day School, Macon, where he was named an All-State second baseman. He was a 1990 graduate of East Tennessee State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and History. While at ETSU, Kim was a member of the baseball team, and spent two summers in Europe playing baseball with Athletes in Action, associated with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Following his graduation from ETSU, he briefly taught history and coached baseball at Tri-Cities Christian School. Kim then began his thirty-one-year career with Chem-Aqua, an NCH Corporation, where he worked as a Divisional Manager.

Kim was a member of Grace Fellowship Church. He was a baseball coach for Harman Ice in the Johnson City National Little League for eight years as well as multiple years as a travel baseball coach.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Buz Wooten.

Kim is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight-years, Betsy Harman Wooten; three children, Ben, Josh and Gracie Wooten, all of Johnson City; one sister, Penny Kilgore Brinson, Johnson City, seven nieces and nephews, John, Andrew, Bill and Hannah Kilgore, Jim and Sam Wooten, Katie Carollo; several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to the Mid-South Division of Chem-Aqua for their continued support throughout Kim's illness, the caregivers on the 2300 nursing unit at the Johnson City Medical Center, SoFHA hospitalists and social worker, and Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care given to Kim.

The memorial service for Kim will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 3:00 P.M., in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Earle Chute, officiating.

Immediately following the service, the family will informally greet friends in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
