Macon, Georgia - Funeral Services for Leanita Dowdy will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026. Wake - from 12:00-1:45 pm at Hutchings Funeral Home, 536 New St, Macon, GA. Catholic Mass at 2:00 pm - St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 Poplar St, Macon, GA. Interment will follow at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, 3969 Mercer University Dr, Macon, GA.
Leanita D. Dowdy of Union City, GA entered into eternal rest on February 5, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on August 5, 1943, in Macon, GA, to Lillie Mae Jones Rivers and TSGT Warren D. Rivers. She is survived by brothers Arnett Rivers and Joseph Rivers.
Leanita is the loving mother of five children: Antoinette Reed (Byron), James Wellons, Jerry Wellons (Allison), Pompey Wellons (Kim), and Warren Wellons (Terry). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A devoted Roman Catholic and member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone, GA, Leanita was a dedicated follower of Padre Pio and worked tirelessly to support his path to sainthood. Her rosary was never far from reach, and her unwavering trust in God sustained her through every trial, every joy, and her final journey home.

Thank you, Cousin Leanita, for the beautiful love you always showed to Paris and me. Your kindness and warmth meant more than words can say. God has welcomed you home, and though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for every moment we shared with you. May you rest in perfect peace.

Although we traveled rocky roads love always overcame I will miss our chats which we had many early in the morning late at night even in the wee hours when folks are sleeping to understand one must know, yet they don't and won't and another thing we never shared was our birthdates now I know why just a difference of five (5) days confirms our love for each other sure I will miss you but you will always be with me I appreciated your warmth, care and devotion and I heard you and you knew my heart your greetings sent filled me with much joy and happiness to know someone truly cared after the loss of my dad meant so much unfortunately my last cards this past Xmas are my last Xmas to receive I do believe next Xmas an angel will touch my heart and soul even deeper my sincere deepest condolences are being sent to the entire Wellons and Rivers family for the loss of your love one Lenita who is now our GOD's angel
