Maria Bailey Obituary

Maria McMillan Bailey -MACON - After an extended illness, Maria McMillan Bailey joined her Master on Thursday, August 26, 2004. She was born in Bibb County on May 28, 1931 to the parentage of the late Mr. Louis Dewitt McMillan and Mrs. Maria Dixon McMillan. She was educated in the Bibb County Public Schools and at Savannah State University. At an early age, she joined St. Paul AME Church. -Maria served as the main pianist and organist at numerous churches in the city for many years. She also served as a teacher, the musician, and artistic coordinator at a day-care center. While employed at Warner Robins Air Force Base for approximately 25 years, she worked in several capacities including instrument repair-person before retiring in 1994. -She leaves to mourn her death two daughters, Alice M. (Roosevelt) Simpkins and Gwendolyn M. (Emmett) Johnson; one son, Marvin H. Bailey, Sr.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; seven nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Clara McMillan; a devoted cousin, James A. Dixon, Jr.; a special friend, Lucille Harris and a host of other relatives and friends. -A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul AME Church, 989 Morrow Avenue on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 3P.M. -Remains will be placed in church at 1:30P.M. Burial: Ft. Hill Cemetery. -Hutchings Service. Maria M. Bailey
