Marvin Duckworth Obituary

Marvin Austin Duckworth -MILLEDGEVILLE - Marvin Austin Duckworth 83 died Sunday, May 17, 2009. Services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with Dr. Don Long and Rev. Billy Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow at Baldwin Memorial Gardens. -Mr. Duckworth was born in Hancock County and graduated from Georgia Military College. He was a veteran of the United States Marines Corps serving during World War II in the South Pacific. He retired as a District Line Supervisor with Georgia Power Company working in Baxley and Cochran before retiring in Milledgeville with 34 years of service. Mr. Duckworth was a past member of the Rotary Club in Cochran and Milledgeville. He was a member of the Georgia Cattlemen's Association, a charter member and past Director of the Baldwin, Jones and Putnam Cattlemen's Association and a member of the Baldwin County Progressive Farmers Club. He was the recipient of the Piedmont Soil & Water Conservation Man of the Year. He also served as Director of the Farm Service Agency County Committee for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Luther and Ruth Bass Duckworth, a sister Mildred Mayzes, and three brothers; Manning, Richard and Bobby Duckworth. -Survivors include his wife of 54 years Wilma Duckworth, two sons Joe Duckworth (Connie) and Gary Duckworth, three grandchildren; Amanda Duckworth, Zane Duckworth and Austin Duckworth all of Milledgeville. -In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Georgia Sheriff's Association, Inc. P.O. Box 1000 Stockbridge, GA 30281. -The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:30 pm until the funeral hour at 4:00 pm. -Visit www.mooresfuneralhome.com to express tributes. -Moores Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of arrangements.

Ms. Wilma, Joe and Gary,
I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Ms. Austin. I will always remember him as a kind man. I enjoyed getting to know him through Gary when yall lived in Cochran. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
