Neal Carpenter Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel Neal Holten Carpenter -MACON - Lieutenant Colonel Neal Holten Carpenter of Macon, GA passed away on July 7, 2007, at age 94. He was born on February 10, 1913, in Hermosa Beach, Ca, the son of Frank and Mable Varney Carpenter of Uxbridge, Mass. He lived in Los Angeles until he joined the U.S. Army in 1932. He enlisted as a private and was promptly sent to Hawaii as an infantry soldier He did not see a positive future in the Infantry and volunteered to be company clerk despite the fact he could not type. He taught himself and later within six years had been promoted to Sergeant. He saw an opportunity in the Army Air Corp and became a Warrant Officer in the Finance Department. After World War II, he changed from a Warrant Officer to take a pay decrease as a Second Lt. in the Air Force. He remained in the Finance Department and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1961. Neal Carpenter was married to Frances Laura Bishop for 54 years until her passing in 1999. -He is survived by daughter, Sherryl Williams and her husband, Dennis Williams, as well as his three grandchildren Melinda, William and Eric Neal Hall. -Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
