Roger A. Galipeau -MACON, GA - Roger A. Galipeau, 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. -Mr. Galipeau was born on December 1, 1925 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to the late Leonidas and Laura Galipeau. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy for 25 years. During the war, his ship captured a German submarine off the coast of the United States. -During his service in the navy, Mr. Galipeau was a sonar instructor at the U.S. Fleet Sonar School, Key West, Florida. The New Bedford sailor and other instructors were picked to teach students the operations, procedures and maintenance of sonar equipment used in anti-submarine warfare. -During his active duty service in the Navy, Mr. Galipeau received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Award, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. -After retiring from the Navy, he worked another 25 years in a civilian capacity for the Office of Naval Intelligence as an intelligence analyst. In that role, he was a Primary ASW Analyst and was our government's contact with Denmark. -After his retirement in 1993 from his civilian job, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed boating and gardening, but especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. -Mr. Galipeau was predeceased by his wife Myrna. He is survived by his children, Sandra (Michael) King, Michael Galipeau and Lisa (Jimmy) Land; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister; and three nephews. -The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
