Ronnie Ray Griffin -FORSYTH - Ronnie Ray Griffin died Thursday, May 7, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 3P.M., Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Ken R. Chambless will officiate. The family will greet friends from 1:00 until 2:45 P.M., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. -Mr. Griffin was born March 19, 1946 in Monroe County. His father, Ben H. Griffin, Jr. preceded him in death. He was a 1965 graduate of Mary Persons High School and he attended Brewton Parker College. During his school years, he was employed with the City of Forsyth and instrumental in building Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. He was retired from American General Life and Accident Insurance Company formerly known as National Life and Accident Insurance Company. Ronnie was a former Deputy Coroner under Coroner Andrew A. Dillon for Monroe County. He was previously very active with the Youth Baseball Program. He was employed with Monroe County Memorial Chapel as a pre-need insurance specialist and a funeral assistant and was also employed with the City of Forsyth as salesman for the city cemeteries. He was a veteran of the Georgia Air Force Guard and was an avid Georgia Tech fan. -Survivors include his mother, Virginia Griffin of Forsyth; children, Rhonda Hardy and her husband Keith of Macon; Sheri Castro-Poveda of Griffin and Virginia Griffin of Forsyth; brother, Mike Griffin and his wife Emily of Fort Valley; grandchildren, Kendall Hardy, Griffin Hardy, Marla Castro-Poveda and Ben Castro-Poveda; niece, Kelli Banister and nephew, Matt Griffin. -The family requests no flowers but suggest donations to the Day Home, c/o DDM, Inc., 6320 Amherst Court, Norcross, GA 30092 or to Monroe Academy, 433 Highway 41 South, Forsyth, GA 31029. -Please visit www.monroecountymemorialchapel.com to sign the Online Registry for the family. -Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
