Samuel Johnson Obituary

Samuel (Sam) Claude Johnson
August 29, 1953 - February 19, 2022
Forsyth, Georgia - Samuel (Sam) Johnson passed away on Saturday, February 19th, 2022 at 68 years of age after an extended illness. Sam was born August 29, 1953 in Atlanta, GA to Frank Johnson Sr. and Annie Bell Thaxton Johnson.
Sam was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Johnson Jr. and Joseph Haner; aunts, Melba Couch and Sue Moore; brother-in-law, Stacey Curry and infant granddaughter, Mackenzie Parker.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Patricia Johnson; children, Wendy (Bill) Turner and Eric (Lindsay) Parker; grandchildren Brice Turner, Kenley Turner, Adalyn Parker, and Olivia Parker; brothers-in-law, Len Curry (Christine) and Billy Curry (Cindy); sisters, Brenda Ferguson (Concord, VA) and Libby Thomas (Haynesville, GA); his niece and caretaker, Emalea Curry, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Sam enlisted in the Army at 21 years of age. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment. At the time of his Honorable Discharge, Sam had earned the rank of Sergeant First Class and served in Germany for 2 years. He earned the Hand Grenade Expert Badge and the M-16 Rifle Marksman Badge as well as the Army Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
After being relieved from Active Duty, Sam attended college and obtained his Associates Degree. Sam was an electrician by trade and worked for many years at Ingleside Electric in Macon prior to working for Wayerhauser and Jordan Forest Products from which he retired after 28 years.
Anyone who knew Sam knew he loved being a PawPaw, good looking trucks, fishing, animals of all kinds and his loyal companion, Sadie. Sam and Sadie were well known for their Sunday afternoon outings to run errands and visit family. As his health faded, Emalea became Sam's caregiver. He looked forward to her visits because he knew she would bring him special treats.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Save-A-Pet, PO Box 933 Forsyth, GA 31029 or to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
