Taylor Coppage Obituary

Taylor Coppage, III, M.D.

April 13, 1943 - October 21, 2025

Milledgeville, Georgia - Taylor Coppage III, M.D.

Dr. Taylor Coppage III passed away after a short illness on October 21, 2025, at his home on the lake in Milledgeville with his wife of 37 years by his side.

Taylor was born in Valdosta on April 13, 1943. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary McCoy Coppage, and his father, Abram Taylor "T" Coppage Jr., as well as his in-laws, Jack and Edith Smith of Danville, Georgia. He grew up with many fond memories of his childhood in Valdosta and maintained a lifelong connection with his friends there. His Valdosta High School track career sparked a lifelong passion for running, and he remains the holder of a state title for men's hurdles. Taylor graduated with a degree in chemistry from Valdosta State College, which secured him a position as a chemist for Corning in Raleigh, North Carolina.

After several years, he was called to medicine and was accepted to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He graduated in 1973 as a Doctor of Medicine and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He moved to Macon to begin his medical career as an intern at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he continued to serve while in practice. After completing his residency in OBGYN in 1977, he joined Macon OBGYN Associates, where he cared for the women of central Georgia for 39 devoted years. His dedicated staff became like a second family through the years. While in practice at Coliseum Medical Centers, Taylor served in many capacities, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief of OBGYN, and member of the Executive Committee.

Along with his passion for medicine and serving his patients, Taylor also found time for his love of fishing, running (he completed the ascent of Pike's Peak), and reading. His expansive vocabulary made him a skilled crossword puzzle solver – and he would only complete puzzles in pen. He was a long-term season ticket holder for the University of Georgia football (Go Dawgs). He remained a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church even after retiring and leaving Macon.

Beloved as Taylor was by his patients, his dear friends and family will miss him most. He is survived by his wife, Ronda Coppage, and children Dr. Taylor Coppage IV (Page), Mary Catherine Jiang (Michael), and Victoria Weece (Jess). He was the proud grandparent of Lily Grace Coppage, Scout Jiang, Boone Weece, and step-grandparent of Gabriel and Liya Wilson.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sheryl Hill (Charles), Terry Mason, and brother-in-law Richard Smith (Susan), and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
