William Fletcher Obituary

William "Bill' Edward Fletcher Sr.
June 16, 1930 - March 14, 2021
Macon, Georgia -
William Edward Fletcher, Sr., (Bill), 90, died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of March 14, 2021. He was born June 16th, 1930 in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late James C. and Etta Merle Fletcher. Bill was a four-year veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served during the Korean War. After serving in uniform, Bill spent the remainder of his career in the Air Force Civilian Service, where he retired as an avionics supervisor.
Bill Fletcher's life was filled with love. He married Genevieve Nell Parks in April of 1951, and in the 69 years that followed, the two of them modeled devotion and kindness to the family that was borne from their partnership. Bill lived most of his 90 years in Macon, GA where he devoted himself to his faith and his family. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years at Victory Baptist Church, a building that was built in part by his own two hands. Bill Fletcher was a man of great faith - a spiritual giant to those that knew him. His nightly montage of "Jesus is Mine" and "Everybody Ought to Know" helped to tether three generations of Fletcher children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren both to each other and to their faith.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters; Faye Christie and Mary Taylor; brothers; James and Carl Fletcher; and children; Rhonda Karen and Alan Bryan Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; three sons and daughters-in-law; Bill and Rita Fletcher of Lizella, GA; Kevin and Tammy Fletcher of Mequon, WI and Jim and Kim Fletcher of Eatonton, GA; sister Martha Burken of Macon, GA; as well as twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held starting at 1PM on Friday, March 19th, 2021 at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie followed by a Funeral Service at 2PM with Reverend Kenny Hamm and Jarrett Fletcher officiating. A small Graveside Service will be held after. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Victory Baptist Church, 5687 Houston Rd, Macon, GA 31216.

In January 1981 at Macedonia Baptist I responded to a Gospel message and walked down the aisle where Brother Bill took the Bible and lead me down Romans Road where I trusted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Hallelujah!!

Brother Fletcher had a solid, practical faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and lived a life of genuine testimony for Him. His family, friends, and all who came to know him were impressed with his Godly character. He truly loved his dear wife and was so proud of his children. It was a joy to know him and we look forward to praising God with him throughout the endless ages of eternity. Heaven is truly much richer today. God bless his dear wife and family, Kevin and Cindy Lucas

What a great Christian example Uncle Bill was to all those who knew him & loved him. He planted so many good seeds into my life & the lives of others. There’s a great reunion going on in heaven right now with our loved ones who have gone before him but we sure will miss him here on earth.

Brother Bill Fletcher is one of the greatest examples of a Christian that I have been privileged to know. He was always a gentleman. Brother Bill taught Denise and I in Sunday School and KYB. He was faithful to the Lord and Victory Baptist Church. I will miss him down here but I’ll see him again because of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ! I am praying for the family!
