Amy Lynn Vieth
September 20, 1955 - November 12, 2025
MIDDLETON – Amy Lynn Vieth, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Middleton, Wis., on November 12, 2025, at the age of 70. She was surrounded by her adoring family, who will carry forward the compassion, kindness and steady strength she offered to so many.
Amy was born on September 20, 1955, in Sparta, Wis., the daughter of Morgan and Marlene (Heath) Wells. She was the second of four girls raised on a 170-year-old family dairy farm in the Town of Wells, where daily chores and the beauty of the countryside gave her an appreciation for both hard work and living in the moment. She loved exploring the bluffs above the Wells farm and was active in 4-H, highlighted by winning Grand Champion for her steer, Sparky, at the 1967 Northwest Wisconsin Livestock Show. The bonds that Amy shared with each of her sisters kept the four of them close throughout her life.
While in eighth grade, Amy met the love of her life, Dave, a "city boy" from Sparta who sat behind her in algebra class. Amy and Dave married in 1980 and built a nearly 45-year marriage centered around shared values, their children, and an appreciation for travel, nature, and laughter. After graduating from UW-La Crosse in 1977, Amy and Dave moved to Middleton in 1983, where Amy began a fulfilling career in public health and community outreach, supporting hundreds of families across Dane County over her 40-year career.
Amy's true calling was as a mother, and she took tremendous pride in creating a home filled with constant warmth and unconditional love. This foundation allowed her children to fully experience the joys of childhood while instilling in them the values she embodied - kindness, responsibility, and the importance of caring for others. She celebrated their successes, offered steady reassurance during challenges, and made them feel loved every day. Amy also delighted in carefully planning detailed itineraries for their many family vacations, finding ways to make the most of every moment spent together. Among her happiest times were the summer days at Black Oak Lake, where she enjoyed paddleboarding, sunset pontoon rides, and her annual waterski run.
Over the past six years, Amy welcomed five grandchildren and often said that being a grandmother was the greatest joy of her life. The grandchildren all saw Grandma's house as a second home, and she reveled in each opportunity to engage with them. She especially loved baking cookies, hosting sleepovers, reading stories, and showering them with affection. Meeting her newest grandchild, Graham, was an especially meaningful gift in her final weeks of life.
Amy will be remembered by many for her selfless nature and her ability to make people feel seen and valued, whether they were lifelong friends or someone she had only recently met. Her warm smile, steady presence, and gift for listening made her someone people naturally turned to. She was also renowned for her talents as a baker and always had fresh cookies, pies, and cakes on display for anyone who visited. Perhaps less obvious was her tremendous toughness and perseverance that supported her family through many challenging moments and continues to guide them now.
Amy is survived by her husband, Dave; her children, Michael (Kaila) Vieth and Kristen (Alex) Seguin; her beloved grandchildren, Caleb (5), Allie (3), Sawyer (2), Evan (1), and Graham (~2 months); her sisters, Nancy (Randy) Brooks, Leslie (Chuck) Wydeven, and Mary (Doug) Leis; her sisters-in-law, Mary (Doug) Yellick and Nancy (Bill) Waterbury; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Marlene Wells; her parents-in-law, Ivan and Shirley Vieth; and her nephew, Brian Brooks.
