McDermott, Barbara Brandt Moe
MCFARLAND - Barbara Brandt Moe McDermott passed away peacefully at her home in Oshkosh on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the age of 78. She was born in Edwards Park, McFarland, Wis., in 1943, daughter of Florence Harrison Brandt McConnell and Wilfred Brandt. Barbara attended Monona Grove and Stoughton High Schools. In 1959, she married Charles Moe, and they farmed in the Stoughton area.
In 1971, Barbara married William "Bill" McDermott. Barbara and Bill both worked for the U.S. government. Barbara traveled around both the United States and Europe auditing various military commissaries. Bill was in the U.S. Army. They lived in many places, including Germany; El Paso, Texas; Hopewell, Va.; and Weaver, Ala. They were both excellent cooks and liked to provide special ethnic and favorite family meals in each place they lived. They hosted many close family members and friends.
Barbara and Bill both retired and returned to Wisconsin. They lived in Montello and Oshkosh. Barbara was active in Oshkosh Senior Center and enjoyed a close circle of friends there. Bill died in 2011. Even during her recent years of health challenges, Barbara remained active to the end. She enjoyed life, travel, and shared love and laughter with many close friends and family.
Barbara is survived by her children, Daniel Moe (Julie Stopen) of McFarland and Karen Mechaelsen of Oshkosh; grandson, Casey Moe (fiancée, Alley Marsden) of McFarland; four sisters, Faye Brandt Polivka, Linda Brandt Anderberg, Jane (Duane) Schmidt, and Mary (Lynn) Randall; brother, James Nelson McConnell II; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Brad Mechaelsen; brother-in-law, Stuart Polivka; brother-in-law, Fred Anderberg; previous husband, Charles Moe; and husband, Bill McDermott.
A celebration of Barbara's life will take place from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 5 at AMERICAN LEGION POST #534, 4911 Burma Road, McFarland.

My condolances to Barbara's family. She was a student under my dad who was a principal at McFarland grade school in the 1950s. I also knew her at Monona Grove HS as a 1961 graduate. Wonderful kind person.
