Carol Ann Lobes
March 18, 1944 - Nov. 1, 2023
MADISON - Carol Ann Lobes passed away on October 25, 2023, in Fitchburg, WI, at the age of 79.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Joe McClain, and many family members and friends. Throughout her life, Carol advocated for, and worked toward justice for all people.
A gathering will be held at Foster Funeral Home, 2737 Coho Street, Madison, WI, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Service of Remembrance at 2:00 p.m.

Joe it was such a pleasure to know Carol and be your neighbor down the hall.. She always had a smile on her face for everyone. I wish I had the chance to know her better. Remember all the good times you had with her, it helps.

Carol was a great lady. I was her secretary in the Equal Rights Division. She was very supportive of any ideas I shared with her. She cared very much for all the staff. She was loved by all of us. She would go and get her chemo treatment and come back to work showing off her bald head. Funny but neat. Again she was a super lady. I love you Carol. Peace be with you. Lynn Hendrickson

Carol has been a treasured colleague and a friend since the 1980s. We worked together in State Government - where she was Deputy Administrator of the Equal Rights Division and later Administrator of the Workers Compensation Division. Later we worked together in County government, when she was the Director of the Department of Human Services and I was Director of Administration. She showed her huge heart in this work, and willingness to do all the practical work of assuring fair and equal treatment of everyone, and equity and respect for all. She improved systems to serve people better. And she was always a woman of integrity, kindness, common sense and all-round goodness.
