Carryn Sue Hanson, age 67, of Madison / Deerfield, passed away after a sudden illness on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Agrace Hospice. She was born on November 29, 1957, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Elizabeth and Robert Hanson.
Carryn was born and raised in Madison WI. She graduated from La Follette High School with the class of 1975 and spent some time at Madison Area Technical College. She was an excellent worker and had a variety of jobs (printer, painter, teacher, mailroom manager) over the course of her career but her last job prior to retirement as a facilities coordinator for CUES.
She liked a bit of speed, fast cars, motorcycles, downhill skiing. She was an athlete, playing tennis, biking, running and horseback riding. And she had the outfits to accompany the activity, so she not only played well but looked great doing it.
Carryn was full of loving kindness and enjoyed sharing with others, whether it be in a conversation, a meal, a beer or just being. She always had a special soft spot for the underdog, whether it be human or animal. With a beautiful smile and a glint in her eye she would tell groan worthy jokes to bring a smile to others.
On her little property in Deerfield, she enjoyed the garden, the horses, the dogs and cats. She had a knack for making sure everything was well maintained and beautiful. If she couldn't do it herself, she would find someone who could.
Carryn was on a spiritual path of discovery and recovery, enhancing her wonderful, kind, beautiful soul. She will be missed, but the world was made better by her all to brief time on this mortal plane.
Carryn is survived by her wife, Ellen Rust and sister Linda (Jeff Scheberl) Hudson Scheberl; step father Ken Wigdal; aunt Susan Hagen; brother-in-law Stephen (Elaine) Rust; sister-in-law Jennifer (Ray) DeMarco; nieces Dawn Hudson (Gary Wolter), Katrina Hudson (Tyler Long), Katricia (Josh) Greeno; Nathaniel (Megan Bracket) Rust, Arynn (Sam) Quest, Laura (Zack) Jones, Ellen Rust, Ariel (Tony Alpy) DeMarco, Jonathan DeMarco, Julieanne Demarco, and Jason (Kristine) DeMarco; great-nieces and nephews, Torin Faye Greeno, Taelynn Elizabeth Long, Phoenix Rust, Natalie Bracket, Ezra Jones, Levi Jones, Emry Jones and Isabella DeMarco-Alpy.
