Daniel John Bush
June 8, 1961 - June 25, 2023
LAFAYETTE, CA - Daniel John Bush, 62, of Orinda and Lafayette, CA, passed away on June 25, 2023, after a prolonged fight with autoimmune disease. He was surrounded by his dearly loved wife and family.
Dan was born in Green Bay, WI, which made him a lifelong Packer fan and devout cheesehead. He was a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he met the love of his life, Amy. They were married for 37 wonderful years. His favorite memories included family ski trips, summers sailing Lake Michigan, and spending time at the cottage in Door County. Golf and sailing were lifelong passions. He was an audiophile and enjoyed blasting anything from opera to vintage rock, usually while enjoying a nice scotch.
Dan's friendships tended to be lifelong and fiercely loyal. Whether from childhood, the Chi Phi house, or living and working on both coasts, Dan easily found common ground with so many fun, kind, and engaging people and made them forever part of his life. From Brooklyn to the Bay Area, he'll be remembered as a faithful friend and brother to so many.
While his career was important to him, Dan's priority was always his girls, Amy and their daughter, Madeline. He was attentive, generous with his time, and always made them laugh. He was there for all of the large and small occasions and was their biggest cheerleader. His proudest moment came last September when he walked Madeline down the aisle and gave a toast for the ages. He was so happy and handsome on that special wedding day in the Smoky Mountains. He loved his new son, Luke, and the entire Searcy family, from day one.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Dick Bush. He is survived by his cherished wife, Amy; the other half of the "Maddy & Daddy show", Dr. Madeline Searcy, and her husband, Luke. He treasured his siblings and their spouses, brother, Bill and Nan Bush; and sister, Barbara and Ben Miller; as well as his cousins, nieces and nephews, with all of whom he felt a special connection. He was as devoted to Amy's family as his own.
A celebration of Dan's life will take place at the Temescal Beach House in Oakland, CA, on September 12, 2023 at 12:00 noon. There will be a second memorial in Madison, WI, on September 29, 2023, in the Langdon Building of the Edgewater Hotel at 12:00 noon.

Dan Bush was my first boss at Nestlé and it was such a blessing. Having a supportive boss who wants you to learn and succeed changes the way you look at professional life. It frees you to ask questions, to take risks and to disagree and build your confidence. He never stopped the support long after any personal benefit was gone.
Dan was positive, measured, analytical and amazing at collaborating with coworkers. I admired his ability to persuade, debate and move on when a decision was made even if he disagreed. He had a wry charm that could lighten a room that still brings smiles to my face.
Dan and Amy remained friends since then and always were a bright light of kindness, charm and filled with the ability to find the positive in any situation.
I hope they have brats in heaven, because there is no person I'd prefer to enjoy one with more than Dan when I get there.

There is absolutely nothing that I can say that would come close to the profound sadness I am feeling at this moment. Dan truly was a friend for the ages-a founding member of the infamous "U-Lie golf tournament ", part of the "old man Scotland golf trip" and oh so many more wonderful and joyous memories.
Dan, as I told Amy earlier today when she told me the sad news, I will raise yet another glass of scotch in your memory-I would have so loved to see you in person to clink our toast to you, but I´m sure that you will be there in spirit with that infectious grin of yours. It might sound quite cliche, but you will be forever remembered and missed my friend!
