Darrell Meyer Obituary

Darrell Richard Meyer

February 2, 1940 - March 1, 2026

STOUGHTON - Darrell Richard Meyer, age 86, of Stoughton, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 1, 2026. He was born on February 2, 1940, in Holland Township, Wis., the son of Bernard and Josephine (Beyer) Meyer.

Darrell graduated from Melrose High School in 1957. He married Donna Fox on December 2, 1961, at the Methodist Church in DeSoto, Wis.

Darrell worked at Trane Company in La Crosse before relocating to Stoughton where he got a job at Viking Glass. He later moved to Klein Dickert in Madison and finished his career at UW. Throughout it all, he was a member of the Glaziers and Glassworkers union for over 60 years.

Darrell was an avid hunter and farmer, and he had a deep love for the outdoors and all living things, especially horses. He was very mechanical and was always tinkering with something. If you needed something fixed or built, Darrell was the man for the job. He was a big card player, and he also enjoyed his country music and loved to dance. He spent a lot of time travelling, taking his family and friends all over the USA and even abroad. Breakfast was his favorite meal and he was always willing to spend the morning over good food and better company.

Darrell had a passion for helping the people around him. He was happy to lend his expertise to his family, friends and neighbors. He deeply loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was very active in their lives. In general, Darrell's family was extremely important to him, and you couldn't ask for a more devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Julie (Neal) Smithback and Cindy (Kenny) Veum; son, Brian (Emily) Meyer; grandchildren, Staci (Billy) Smithback, Neal Nicholas (Alexandra) Smithback, Benjamin (Sabryn) Veum, and Shelby (Dustin) Veum; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Natalee and William Roach; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Bernard; and nine sisters and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 12 p.m., on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to the time of the service on Saturday. A Celebration of Life will be held at HALVERSON'S EVERYTHING NICE, 1965 Barber Drive, Stoughton, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or to the Macular Degeneration Research Program. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
