Fidalia Breunig Obituary

Fidalia Ann "Dale" Breunig

April 6, 1922 - December 15, 2025

Fidalia Ann "Dale" Breunig, age 103, of Sauk City, died on December 15, 2025, at Maplewood Nursing Home, Sauk City. She was born on the family farm in the Town of Springfield on April 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Anton (Tony) and Elizabeth (Schoepp) Dahmen. She was united in marriage to Leo Norbert Breunig on June 27, 1946, at Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Ashton, Wisc.

Dale had been employed as a banquet waitress for 29 years at the historic Riverview Ballroom and Restaurant in Sauk City, Wisc., working under four different owners until it closed in 2004. During that time, she also served the Sauk Prairie Optimists for their breakfast meeting every Wednesday morning and was named an honorary member of their club in appreciation. She was also employed by the Sauk City library for 26 years, providing custodial services. She was joined by her husband in this work for the last 15 years of her employment there.

She was a member of the Saint Aloysius Catholic Church and over the years served as a Eucharistic Minister, Greeter, Church usher, and Adult Choir member. She was a member of the council of Catholic women and a member of the Catholic Daughters. In later years, she enjoyed her weekly Tuesday morning coffee group. She was a 50 year member of the Catholic Knights organization. She was an active member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and a dedicated volunteer.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, and growing flowers, especially geraniums. She was known for her lovely flowerbeds. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds at the many birdfeeders in her yard.

While her husband was alive, they enjoyed traveling and loved music and dancing. They were members of the Lodi Valley square dance club for 20 years prior to his death in 1998.

She is survived by her four children, Eileen (Gary) Ripp-Emerson, Madison Wisc., Kathleen (special friend Ron Ossenfort), Milwaukee, Wisc., Jeffrey (Mary Ann), Fairfax, Va.; and Douglas (Ann), Sauk City, Wisc. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jay (Lisa) Ripp, Eric (Ixchel) Ripp, Jeremy (Mindy) Ripp, Tamara (Dave) Karakis, Scott (Kathryn) Breudecheck, Kyle (Danielle) Breunig, and Kasey Breunig.

She was known as "Great Grandma B" to fourteen great grandchildren, Hillary and Kallie Ripp, Ethan (Lilly), Isabelle, and Oakley Ripp, Aidan, Cooper and Silas Ripp, Tanner and Julie Karakis, Colton Drews, Aubree and Haylee Breunig, and Eleanor "Nellie" Breudecheck. Also survived by one brother, Don Dahmen; and two sisters, Antoinette "Neddy" Juris and Theresa Sheldon and brother-in-law, Jim Masak. She was known as "Auntie Dale" to many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Chris (Emma) Dahmen, Greg (Mary Ann) Dahmen, and Florian (Charlene) Dahmen; sister-in-law, Gerry Dahmen; and two brothers-in-law, Leon Juris and Eugene Sheldon.

Also preceded in death by several nieces and nephews.

Eileen, Kathy, Jeff, and Doug,
I remember your Mother from St. Al´s and the Library. Biking or walking past her house I always looked at her beautiful flowers. She lived a long life now she is resting in peace .

As a Sauk Prairie Optimist, I remember so well that Dale was our waitress for our meetings when they were held at the Riverview restaurant, many times serving 30-35 members solo! We made her an honorary member of our club because of her service to us and for her welcoming and friendly ways. She was a true optimistic person. I also remember her as a parent of Sauk Prairie Middle School students and again, remember her smile and her pleasant and affirming ways with her children. She was one "endless energy" person. Thank you, Dale, for all you have given to the Sauk Prairie community. Rest in peace....
