Klasek, George J.
MADISON - George James Klasek, age 70, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis., after a hard-fought, seven-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 27, 1951, in Berwyn, Ill., the son of Joan and Frank Klasek. He attended Riverside Brookfield High School in Riverside, Ill., and majored in psychology at Bradley University, graduating in 1974. He then moved to Madison to pursue a degree in pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin. After graduation, he worked as an intern before becoming a full-time staff member of UW Hospital in 1978. Over his 33-year career, he specialized in critical care pharmacy and nuclear medicine and mentored many pharmacy residents.
George married Shawn Ida on Aug. 24, 1984, in Oahu, Hawaii. He will be dearly missed by his mother, Joan; his wife, Shawn; son, Scott; daughter, Samantha; and numerous family and friends. Many who knew George personally and professionally recall the wit and humor he could bring to nearly any gathering. His lifelong curiosity was fueled by a diversity of experiences that ranged from SCUBA diving in the Caribbean to enjoying impressionist paintings at the Musée d'Orsay. Following his diagnosis, this curiosity drove his fight to read up on his rare disease and pursue treatment directed by his own expertise.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the CRESS CENTER, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705. For the safety of guests, social distancing will be practiced, and the number of guests during the gathering will be managed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's name to the UW Carbone Cancer Center, Agrace Hospice, or the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (ACPMP) Research Foundation. The family is especially thankful to Dr. Sam Lubner and the Agrace Hospice staff for their compassionate care.

I remember George fondly ! He was a strong, intelligent, witty, handsome man who happened to have the good sense to marry my former coworker and friend. He was an amazing husband and father. He and Shaun hosted their annual Oscar party to which I had the pleasure of attending a few times. Such a vibrant, fun man. He will be dearly missed.
