In Loving Memory of George Joseph Simousek. January 13, 1943 – October 16, 2025. Age 82.
George Joseph Simousek, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Born on January 13, 1943, George grew up on the south side of Chicago, where his strong work ethic and adventurous spirit first took root. A true craftsman, George spent his life building - homes, decks, businesses, and lasting relationships. He worked in construction for many years, creating homes and multi-unit buildings across Chicago and Middleton, Wisconsin. Together with his great high school buddy, Keith Rumisek, he proudly owned a carpet store, later becoming a successful salesman and ultimately venturing into the international trade of granite countertops and flooring from China.
In his early years, George worked on a ranch and even rode bulls in rodeos - a testament to his bold, fearless nature. His skill with tools never left him; he built three stunning, adjoined decks on the family home in Madison, Wisconsin, and completed countless remodeling projects at his home in Sun City West, Arizona.
Even as time and illness slowed him down, George never lost his drive to keep moving and creating. George's sense of humor remained bright until the very end. He cherished laughter, hard work, and, most of all, his family. He was always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or offer encouragement. He stood proudly beside his wife, Welda Simousek (Kleinke), as her greatest cheerleader, supporting her in building her educational consulting business. His love for her was expansive, steadfast, and deeply felt by all who witnessed it.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George John Simousek and Ella Anna Kolar; his stepfather, John Sutko; his brother, Richard Simousek; and his nephew, Mark Simousek. He is survived by his loving wife, Welda; his children, Renee Simousek of Madison, Wisconsin; MarySue Dick (Simousek) of Coal City, Illinois; and Jamie Van Kleeck (Swed) of Beverly, Massachusetts; his cherished grandchildren, Madison Van Kleeck, Michael McLey, and Shawn McLey; and his adored great-grandchildren, Emberly, Lennea, and Eliam McLey. He is also survived by his stepbrother, Michael (Nick) Sutko, and stepsister, Jane Sutko-Rozdilsky. George is survived by many loving relatives including brother and sister-in-law's and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, as well as high school buddies and friends from his life's journey who remained close through the years.
George will be remembered for his boundless generosity, enduring humor, and his deep devotion to those he loved. His many relatives and friends will miss him dearly - a man who worked hard, loved harder, and left the world a little sturdier, warmer, and brighter than he found it.
