George "Woody" Woodbridge
January 16, 1946 - September 25, 2025
OREGON - George "Woody" Woodbridge, age 79, of Oregon, Wis., passed away on September 25, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis., following a brief illness. Woody was born to Gloria (Lundin) and Howard Woodbridge in Marquette, Mich., on January 16, 1946.
Woody earned a bachelor's degree in education at Northern Michigan University and a master's degree in counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He worked in the Pulaski Community School District in Pulaski, Wis., for his entire professional career - 38 years - as a business ed teacher and later as a high school counselor. He was active in the teachers' union. In his retirement, he spent many years substitute teaching in the Oregon School District.
Woody was passionate about harness horse racing, and he trained and raced standardbred horses. He was a leader in the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association and was inducted into the Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2018. Woody was a gifted public speaker, and he announced harness horse races across the Midwest. He also did public addresses for Pulaski High School sports and for St. Norbert College men's hockey. He was an active member of the Lions Club.
Woody is survived by his wife, Diane (Di Loreto) Woodbridge; and his children, Daniel Woodbridge and Lindsay Woodbridge (Michael Johnson). He is further survived by his siblings, Joe (Karen) Woodbridge, Patricia Phillips and Ron Woodbridge; and siblings-in-law, Jim Di Loreto (Jack Frost), Ken (Sharon) Di Loreto, Lori (Lee) Bulman and Bob (Beth) Di Loreto; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. An animal lover, he is also survived by his cat, Rocco; and horse, Stash. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Gloria Woodbridge; his father- and mother-in-law, Dan and Ann Di Loreto; his sisters-in-law, Gaynelle Woodbridge and Susan Woodbridge; and great-nephew, Ethan Bulman.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12 noon on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
