SUN PRAIRIE – Grant Donald White, age 90, passed away at Home Again Memory Care in Columbus on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Don was born on September 1, 1933, in Madison, WI, to Grant and June White. He grew up in Middleton and graduated from Middleton High School in 1951. He enlisted in the US Navy from May 27, 1952, to May 21, 1956, and again February 17, 1964, to June 16, 1966. Don married JoAnn McDermott on July 10, 1965, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Madison. After marriage they relocated to Sun Prairie and raised three boys. He worked at Oscar Mayer, retiring after 27 years. Don was a member of the Madison Moose Lodge from 1965 and served as Governor for Lodge 1451 from 1985 until 1986. In 1997 he attained The Pilgrim Degree of Merit which is the highest honor that can be granted to a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Don enjoyed bowling, watching sports, attending his grandkids' events, and listening to all music, country and western. He always wanted to be kept in the loop with what was going on with everyone.
Don is survived by his sons, Patrick (Ilene), Michael (Joanel), and Brian (Annie Wucker); grandchildren: Andrew (Savannah), Elizabeth, Nicole, and Brandon; and brother, Bert Thompson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grant White and June (Kenneth) Thompson; wife of 57 years, JoAnn; sisters: Betty (Rex) Barker and Colleen (George) Hove; several nieces and nephews; and dogs: Rockey and Charlie.
A funeral service, concluding with Full Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona.
The family would like to thank the staff at Prairie Gardens in Sun Prairie, Home Again Memory Care in Columbus, and Agrace Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
