Jack Alan Erb
June 3, 1943 - April 24, 2025
MARSHALL - Jack Alan Erb, 81, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Jack was born on June 3, 1943, the son of Herman and Virginia ("Jibby") Erb in Cottage Grove, Wis. Jack graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1961 and the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in 1965. Growing up on a farm, Jack learned to drive at the age of 13 with the family tractor and developed an early interest in business watching his father, Herman, raise livestock and grow crops. His all time favorite dessert was his mother's homemade Strawberry Rhubarb pie.
Upon graduating from UW-Platteville, Jack married Judith Zeman on February 3, 1968. Using the business acumen he gained from his father, Jack went into business for himself applying his entrepreneurial skills across many ventures seeking to help others with their financial challenges through insurance, marketing, mortgage lending, and home building. On October 2, 1982, Jack married Kim Sheil. Together, Jack and Kim owned and operated The Shirt Stop on State Street, a t-shirt store, for almost 20 years. The Shirt Stop led to the screen-printing business, Ameriprint, which was started on Jack's parent's farm in Sun Prairie. Later in life, following a passion for personal health from his time as a medic in the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Jack became very active in natural health with his own website Erb's Herbs and promoting the health benefits of Kangen water.
After moving to Marshall, Jack became a charter member of the Marshall Lions Club, a local chapter of Lions Club International, in January 1979 and served the local community for over 40 years. Jack was recognized in 2018 as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest honor bestowed by Lions Club International for embodying the humanitarian purpose of the world's largest service club organization exemplified in its motto "WE SERVE." Jack spent his life serving those around him through his service with the Marshall School Board, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Marshall Area Business Association, Ducks Unlimited, and the Mendota Gridiron Club. Of course, for those who knew Jack, they were familiar with his big laugh and smile. He enjoyed music and dancing and in recent years could be found regularly at the Barrel Inn singing karaoke and dancing to his favorite songs including classics from Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Hank Williams. Jack and his wife were avid members of their local Euchre Card Club where many of his close friends could hear his voice across several rooms in his cheerful voice exclaiming "EUCHRE!"
