John George Evachenko

MADISON - John George Evachenko, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at SSM Health-St. Mary's Hospital. The son of George Ivaschenko and Anna Switlitchniy, he was born on October 21, 1938, in the Ukraine (known at that time as Poland). His family left there for Germany in 1940 and then came to the U.S. in 1950.

John attended Central High School in Madison, graduating in 1958. He met his wife, Pat, in 1956. John attended barber school and later cosmetology school. In 1960, John and Pat were married at Trinity United Methodist Church.

John joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1961 and was sent to Washington state for a year. Pat became a beautician. When John came home, they opened their own salon called "The Head Quarters." Pat retired after 60 years, and John retired after 65 years.

John and Pat both loved their work, their clients, TUMC (church) activities, events, Pat's parents' cottage in Cumberland, WI, and spending weekends at the campground in Lake Delton. They traveled to Germany, where their son and grandson lived. John loved hunting and fishing in Cumberland and together they enjoyed exercise programs through MSCR.

John leaves behind his wife, Pat; son, Chris; daughter, Cari; grandson, David (Ronna); cousin, Maria (Bob); and four great-grandchildren, Evan, Vincent, Theo and Adeline. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna (Switlitchniy) Ivaschenko; and a brother, Michael Evachenko.

A graveside service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, in the chapel, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025.
