Young, Karen (Esser)

HOWARDS GROVE - Karen (Esser) Young, age 80, of Howards Grove, left our earthly world on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Karen was born on July 23, 1941, in Madison, Wis., a daughter to the late George and Violet (Pollow) Esser. She attended Central High School, Madison, Wis., graduating in 1959.

On Aug. 6, 1960, she married her favorite sailor, Allen LeRoy Young, in Madison. They moved their family to Sheboygan/Howards Grove area. Allen preceded her in death on May 21, 2019.

Over the years Karen held various positions, first and foremost as wife and homemaker - taking care of Al and five children kept her busy. Somehow, she found time to take on other employment, including working for JC Penney, Log Cabin, Executive Inn, and Lakeland College; she and Al also owned and operated "The Hitch 'N Post" and a busy hobby farm.

In the course of 80 years Karen had many interests; she was able to share these interests with family and friends. Karen served as a 4-H leader (cooking and sewing), and she enjoyed trapshooting, camping, bowling, traveling, horse pulls and horse shows.

Her enjoyment of dancing, music and socializing is how she met Al; they enjoyed many years dancing together, sharing the joy of this with their children and making many happy memories.

Karen grew her love for sports, watching and attending the events her favorite athlete, Al, participated in. This interest expanded with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as she developed into an avid sports enthusiast who seldom missed a Brewers, Packers, Rebels or River Dogs game.

She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Senkowski; sister-in-law, Mary Esser; her children, Rene and Mark Kleinhans, Sandi and Bill (Remis) Everson, James and Mary (Cook) Young, Sally and Tony Sikora, and Traci and Paul Goplin; her grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Kleinhans, Whitney (John) Morales, Hannah Kleinhans, Abert (Halle) Everson, Jessica (Brad) Barts, Alyssa (Matt) Holler, Becca Young, Daine (Marie) Sikora, Austin Sikora, Sebastian, Wyatt, and Isaiah Goplin; her great-grandchildren, Addalyn, Finley, Avery, Trinity, Bridget, Dayton, James, Olivia, Eastynn and Lillian; along with her many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter, Cindy; infant great-grandson, Clint; two brothers, Darvin Esser and Gordon (Nancy) Esser; sister-in-law, Barbara (Bruce) Albright; brother-in-law, Robert Senkowski; and her in-laws, Ralph and Evelyn Young,

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at ST. JOHN UCC SCHWARTZWALD, W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake, with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Burial will follow at St. John UCC Cemetery.

Our deepest sympathy for your family, while you go through the hard transition that you are experiencing of loosing a mother, a grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a friend. Please remember: When yo are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. May her wonderful memories forever last within your hearts!
