Kathryn Smith Obituary

Kathryn Smith

December 7, 1951 - December 2, 2025

Kathryn Smith passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the age of 73. She was the oldest of four children, born to Reverend Edward Eggert and Ruth (Kretzmann) Eggert in Shawnee, Okla. She was a graduate of Valparaiso University.

She met the love of her life, Gregory Smith, at a 1975 Summer Fest concert and married him ten months later. They had three children. She taught Lamaze classes for many years, helping many families bring children into the world. When their children got older, she became a teacher's aide and an administrative assistant at the schools in McFarland. Kathy was loving, kind, hard-working, fun-loving, and multi-talented. Music was one of Kathy's passions; she loved to play piano, and notably sang soprano in the Madison Symphony Chorus for several years.

Kathy spent many happy years with Greg raising their children and travelling to Europe and all over the United States and Canada.

Kathy is survived by her husband Greg; her daughter Kristin; her sons, Ryan (Erika) and Eric (Sarah) as well as grandchildren, Madison, Ryder, Indria, Ava and Summer. An incredible wife and mother, she was a marvel of kindness, sweetness, love and hard work. She will be missed by all.

A funeral will be held on the morning of December 17, 2025 at Bethel Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. The family encourages sharing condolences at www.cressfuneralservice.com.

Yesterday

Over the course of many years, we had the delightful experience of crossing paths with Kathy from time to time. We came away from each encounter having much enjoyed her company and having been struck by her graciousness and warm-heartedness. Her infinite love for Greg and their family was instantly obvious. Like others who knew her, we will miss her.

Yesterday

Kathy was one of the kindest, most gentle souls we ever met. She instilled these qualities in her children, something she rightly proud of.

Her work as a Lamaze instructor typifies her loving and caring heart.

We know how great a void her passing leaves in the hearts of those who loved her most. Just remember that all the love Kathy shared with us is everlasting.
