Mary McCoshen Obituary

Mary Ann McCoshen

August 5, 1954 - January 29, 2025

Mary Ann McCoshen, of Madison, Wis., passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on January 29, 2025, at the age of 70.

Mary Ann was born on August 5, 1954, in Superior, Wis. She was the daughter of the late J. Patrick and Marie (Whitacre) McCoshen.

She was a devoted dog mom to her sweet companion, Molly.

As the firstborn in a large family, Mary Ann was often called on to assist with younger siblings. She had a keen interest in the well-being of family members and always tried to stay informed about the latest news.

She was also the family historian and genealogist. A highlight for her was traveling to Ireland to explore family ancestry.

She was well known for her Christmas cookies and enjoyed sharing recipes. In the warmer months, you could find her tending to her flowers or working in her vegetable garden in the backyard. She loved books and was an avid reader.

She graduated from Superior Senior High School with the class of 1972. She also attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where she was a member of the Delta Sigma sorority.

Mary Ann moved to Madison, Wis. in 1983. She had been involved behind the scenes with the Madison Theatre Guild. She also was involved in political campaigns. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish.

She retired from the State of Wisconsin, where she was the Division Administrator of the Department of Financial Institutions. Before that position, she worked for WHEDA for over 20 years in senior positions. During her time with the state, she worked under five gubernatorial administrations. She appreciated fine housewares and thoroughly enjoyed her part-time job at Douglas China in Madison.

Over the past three years, she developed a close bond with her great-nephew, Cameron McKenzie, son of Sarah and Jack McKenzie. She adored Cam and loved spending countless hours with him.

Mary Ann is survived by her seven siblings, Michael (Julie) McCoshen of Superior, Wis., Kathleen MacDonald of Denver, Colo., Maureen McCoshen of Madison, Wis., Sean (Patty) McCoshen of Lino Lakes, Minn., Kevin (Colleen) McCoshen, Dundas, Minn., Bill (Carol) McCoshen of Verona, Wis. and Colleen McCoshen of Superior, Wis. She is also survived by 19 nieces and nephews, many cousins, and her aunt, Patricia Piggott.
