Natalie worked as a registered nurse for 50 years, holding many offices and serving on boards in the Wisconsin Nurses Association. She was a president of the UW School of Nursing Alumni Association. Natalie was very active in SEIU, the bargaining agent for nurses. While others worked to increase wages, Natalie's focus was to promote living a fairly normal life as compatible with being a dedicated nurse.
She worked as an election official and a tax preparer in retirement. She did a variety of volunteer activities including her church, Wisconsin Historical Society, and Literacy Network. She appreciated and was dedicated to the many friends and family who supported her in this life, wishing that God grant all wisdom and peace. Remember to vote.
Service will be held at Roselawn cemetery in Madison, WI, in the future. Notice of the Memorial will be in the newspaper at that time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens (www.foodpantrygardens.org) would be appreciated.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of Natalie. I met Natalie at my first job in Madison at the UW Psych Unit in 1977. I was a young nurse with just a few years of experience but I knew right away she would be one of the best nurses I ever met and she was. She was very kind to me and although we did not work together for long I saw her many times over the years at our union functions and was delighted that she always remembered me. It was a privilege to have known her.

Jim,
I was sorry to learn of your mom's passing from a mutual friend. I fondly remember her smile from our time at Asbury and how she and your dad were always so involved in the work of the church and its ministry. What a legacy she leaves to you and the entire Witte family. Prayers and hugs.

I knew Natalie and Ken when they were members at Asbury UMC . I remember Natalie telling me how they spent summers visiting this camp in upstate New York where they attended lectures and structured activities. Natalie was cool, extraordinary and in a league of her own. I really admired her (and Ken). I appreciated their intellect and hard work and devotion to things they believed in. What a great life she lived! I know you will miss your mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Enjoy the Place of Rest, Natalie. You deserve it.

I am so sad to hear of Natalie's passing from this life. She was an amazing person--so kind and full of compassion. I knew her from all of our activities in the Union and at UW Hospitals. Natalie was unique in her advocacy for nurses and enable us to have a life outside of work. She understood the necessity of taking care of self in order to be there for others. My deepest condolences to the extraordinary family that she and Ken brought to this world. Natalie--- May the goodness in your heart be released in this troubled world. Tracy Suprise Union Sister

I was fortunate to grow up next door to the amazing Witte family. Faith, family & neighbors (who were made to feel like family) were so important to her. I remember the Witte Christmas Eve caroling on "the circle" & "the trail".
Public health in action: she invited me over to play cards with K.C. in order to get German measles from him. Many years later when I was starting my own family I was so grateful for her thoughtfulness.
Rest in peace Natalie. Thank you for the memories

I hold with great fondness one summer many years ago when Natalie and I took several of her grandchildren (my nieces) to a children's museum in the Madison area. I enjoyed her lively devotion to her grandchildren and feel confident she was much loved by them.

I'd like to send my condolences to the family on the death of Natalie. I worked alongside her for many years at University Hospital and always marveled at her endless kindness and energy up until the time of her retirement there. She was always eager to pitch in to help a fellow staff member in need when caring for our patients. Natalie was more eager and efficient than any of the rest of us in organizing patient group activities and was able to gather a larger group than any of the rest of us could assemble. To help a fellow staff member, she would willingly trade any shift she could to allow others to attend a wedding or other family get together. She was a unique presence on the unit.
