Lehman, Patricia Anne "Patti"
MADISON - Patricia Anne Lehman, age 75, known to all as "Patti," died of cancer on July 3, 2021, at UW Hospital.
She is survived by her companion of more than three decades, Brad Verhelst of Madison. She is missed by her two daughters, Angel Antin of Basalt, Colo. (Steve Furer), and Adrienne Moe (Bryan Anderson) of Sun Prairie; and five grandchildren, Zack Antin Furer, Adora Moe, Dominic Antin Furer, Sonny Moe and Leilani Moe.
Patti was born Nov. 15, 1945, in Cambridge, Mass., to Ralph "Barney" Lehman of Verona, Wis., and Mary Gragg Lehman of Boston, both of whom served in World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps. Patti grew up in Madison.
She spent much of her childhood with her paternal grandparents, Emilia Aisenbrey Lehman and the Rev. Herman Lehman, pastor of Zwingli Swiss Reformed Church in Verona, Wis. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1963.
Patti worked at several businesses on Atwood Avenue in the Schenk-Atwood neighborhood of Madison: Mr. Robert's Bar & Grill, the Nibble Nook, the Ohio Tavern, and Martin Glass Co., where she spent the last years of her career. She and Brad also shared an antiques business.
In the 1970s, Patti petitioned for Madison School & Community Recreation to bring cost-free youth recreation to Hawthorne Park in Schenk-Atwood. Her advocacy resulted in the launch of free summer programming on weekdays at the park.
Patti was known as a gardener, cook, baker, seamstress, crocheter and flower arranger. For friends, she tailored clothes and decorated wedding cakes. She baked cookies and fruitcakes, and pickled everything from green beans to watermelon. Most of it she gave away. She crocheted hundreds of baby blankets for babies she knew---and for babies she'd never met. She donated crocheted hats to Children's Hospital in Denver. Whenever there was a blood drive, she lined up to donate blood.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross at Redcross.org. A celebration of life will take place in November.
