Richard Anderson Obituary

Richard "Dick" Anderson

May 20, 1940 - December 14, 2025

Richard J. "Dick" Anderson, age 85, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Agrace Hospice Center in Fitchburg, WI.

He was born May 20, 1940 to Arthur C. and Florence N. (Fiedler) Anderson in Madison, WI. A lifelong Madison resident he graduated from Madison West High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. On November 14, 1970, he married the love of his life, Kathryn "Kathy" Plummer. Many summers were enjoyed at the cottage on Lake Wisconsin with friends and family members.

He was president of The Neckerman Agency. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Service was important to Dick. He was a member of the Madison Optimist Club for many years, volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital in Madison and was a Host Parent for the Mallards for many years. Baseball was another passion in his life. He attended many Madison Mallard games and began the Fowliners Club. He even participated in Dodger fantasy baseball camps; many, many signed baseball cards were handed out after those camps.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Jill, and son, Jay, sister-in-law, Edie Anderson, brother-in-law, Scott Plummer (Lucy) along with many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, his parents, brother Jerry, and nephew Mike Anderson.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Agrace Hospice Care and all of his family and friends for everything.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carbone Cancer Center, the University of Wisconsin Foundation to bring back Men's Baseball, the University of Wisconsin Business School, or to the charity of your choice.

Private interment to follow.

I will miss Dick. He was instrumental in getting the Mallard's Fouliners started. I have enjoyed the opportunity to participate with Dick and the Mallards. Because of him and his wife, my family has been a host family.

As the founder of the Madison Mallards Fowliners, Dick selected me to the original group as the only female member. He was so kind and friendly and kept me in the baseball realm, where I am now the director of the group Dick started. My husband and I extend our condolences to Dick´s family and friends. We will miss him.

Loved working with Dick in my years at General Casualty. His dry sense of humor made our interactions fun and challenging.

Dick was very instrumental in my early career. I was an insurance broker and worked with many Neckerman agency clients, many were Dick´s personal friends. We did quite well. After a number years I moved to Los Angeles but I always had great memories and fun working with the agency and especially Dick....he was one of the best.

I have great memories of Neckerman softball with coach Dick, and also of coed volleyball. Times with the Anderson were away active and lots of fun.
