Richard Meyer Obituary

Richard David Meyer

November 19, 1928 - January 27, 2025

Richard David Meyer, 96, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Stoughton, Wis.

Born on November 19, 1928, in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Richard was the son of Walter and Alvena Meyer. He graduated from Menomonee Falls High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His entire career was at Delco Electronics in Oak Creek, where he worked as an engineering manager and contributed to the Apollo space program, retiring in 1992.

Richard was an avid bridge player, golfer and skilled woodworker; he found joy both on the greens and in his workshop. Music was also a significant part of his life; he was a dedicated choir member throughout his years. A lifelong member of Emmanuel Community United Methodist Church in Menomonee Falls, he continued in retirement as an active member of St. Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington, Texas.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Meyer (née Altmayer); and their children: David Meyer (Vicki Tessendorf), Ann Meyer (Tom Steppe), Alan Meyer (Karen), and James Meyer (Twila). Richard was also a cherished grandfather to five, and great-grandfather to ten. Also survived by many in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Meyer (Alvena); his brother, Robert W. Meyer (Ellyn); and his parents-in-law, Alvin Altmayer (Ruth); as well as his beloved dogs, Terry, Max and Chelsea.

Richard will be remembered as a caring son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Per his wishes, no services will be held, but a celebration of his life will be held in the future. A special thanks to Kettle Park Senior Living in Stoughton, and Agrace Hospice Care.
