Roger Wyosnick Obituary
Roger Allen Wyosnick of Racine, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday morning, April 25, 2024. He was 71 years and 9 months old. He'd just entered hospice care following a lengthy decline in his health.
During his last years, Roger endured many health crises. Early on, he kept his chin up and carried on, even when his problems were persistent and proved fatal.
Roger Allen Wyosnick was born on July 20, 1952, to our parents, Jean and Robert (Bob) Wyosnick at Kenosha Memorial Hospital. He was their second son. While a child, Roger really loved learning and caught onto reading early. He had many interesting collections from family vacations and scouting. Roger was a favorite among his teachers. School was pretty easy for him and his math skills were outstanding. He earned his way onto National Honor Society, sang in the a-Capela choir, swam long distances for the Tremper Trojans swim team and played varsity tennis. He worked a steady part time job at Lakeway Foods and was a life guard at both Eichelman and Southport beaches while in high school.
After graduating from Tremper H.S. in 1970, Roger entered the U.W. Madison and benefitted from the academic and cultural life of being a student. He became an ardent environmentalist and went camping all over Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. He proffered his interests and skills into a Wildlife Journalism degree. Sometimes he wrote poetry about his feelings for Mother Nature and shared many campfires playing his harmonica and talking about whatever came up.
He started out of college working as editor for the Kenosha Labor Paper. He liked it. Later, he worked as an insurance adjuster, He didn't like that job as much. For many years, Roger worked in the greenhouse business, which he liked a lot. While living in Kenosha, Roger got involved with local conservationists in saving the Chiwaukee Prairie State Natural Area. A couple years later, he was proud of his participation in setting up the Retzer Environmental Education Center in Waukesha County.
Roger was blessed with a loving caring family. He was preceded in death by mom and dad as well as some very dear relatives and friends. Each is nearer, now. He departed from his four siblings, David (Darlene) of Seattle, WA, Jim (Susan) of DeForest, WI, Debra Huber of Townsend, TN and Scott (Christine) of Union Grove, WI. At a later date, friends and family will gather together to honor Roger. He was a very good man. He loved his country and neighbors without prejudice. He prayed for Peace. His intentions were True. He walks in greener pastures now, nearby still waters.
